a fall must list place- cider and spice of course but try the honeys - you will leave with 1 or more --- don't let the line discourage you it moves fast and its fun to window shop all the goods while in line --1 drawback the local police have a nice racket of giving parking tickets so don't park on the street even if everyone else does

We'd heard great things about this place and decided to give it a try while we were in the area. They're primarily a bakery/grocery store, so if you're looking to pick apples, you might be disappointed. We got hot cider and an apple cider donut, both of which were really good. The store is a bit cramped, and one of the cashiers said that the line goes out the door on the weekends. The store also sells baked goods, jams, applesauce, and other apple-related pastries/assorted foods. They have another building in the same complex that sells non-consumable goods and tchotchkes. I wish they had bathrooms indoors, though, rather than just Port-A-Potties.

While in line a person was told, correctly, that his dog would not be allowed in because they were a bakery and there was uncovered food. However, two other people (woman) were also in line with dogs and they not only were not told this, but their dogs were allowed in. Personally, I think that allowing animals into a food establishment with any dog, other than a service dog (a real one) is disgusting. We were in line to purchase donuts when we realized that these other dogs we allowed in. We left without buying a thing.
From their website
Do you allow dogs?
Dogs are allowed on property, as long as they are leashed, are okay with other dogs and people, and you are able to clean up after them. They are not allowed on the porch or inside the buildings.

They are not very moist. I bought the 6pk.,my husband and I tried every single donut one at a time . There is NO apple cider taste in theses donuts ,warm or cold as eaten. The price was fairly low, but that isn't the point. If you claim they are flavored, then make sure your words are true.

Wow! This is such a simple thing to do but it was so fun! I’ve never seen a cider press or anything like this before and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My family (2 adults, 2 kids 5yo & 9yo) watched as the machinery ground up the apples, created layers, then pressed them into cider. It was so interesting, the equipment is certainly historic but still in operation. The store offered cider, hard cider, and wine. After some tastings, we made our selections and enjoyed our treats. The kids liked the cider and donuts best. My husband and I are looking forward to the cider. Watching the press and trying a couple tastes each were free.

Fortunately, we got there later in the day so it wasn’t so busy. I mistakenly thought the point was to see the apple cider being made, but it said it was closed for cleaning. Why wouldn’t you close it outside of business hours, particularly when you are a seasonal operation? Also, they weren’t cleaning it, so it really was just closed. As others have said, this is really just a store to buy stuff and not really an activity. I thought the donuts and cider were fine.

We had read several articles about Clyde's Cider Mill so had to visit when we were in Mystic. We arrived during the week about 30 minutes after they opened and the place was already packed and parking was hard to come by.
Once parked we got to see the steam mill in operation, although you can't get up close, and it was pretty crowded. We then hit what we thought was the bakery but it was more of a store, with lots of foodie goodies, jams, jellies and sauces.
We bought a couple of their apple cider donuts, walked around the property. We sat outside to enjoy one of the donuts and I have to say eh, was disappointed. They didn't taste much like cider, was just a normal donut to us. We much preferred the apple cider donuts at Woodstock Orchards In Woodstock, CT.
We were a bit disappointed with the donuts, and everything else was the store and wine tasting, which we didn't do at 10 am. Seemed more of a touristy activity.

This is more of a store. You can see in a barn the old machinery but you can’t get near it, it’s not great lighting and there is no sign to explain what you’re looking at. Was expecting a little more than a store. The bee problem is worse here than apple orchards in my area. This is not an apple orchard but there was a bin to purchase a bag of macintosh apples. There are free samples of apple cider wine. You can pay for apple cider wine slushies near the sample wine and hard cider or in the store you can get slushies without liquor in it. There is a line that is one way only feeding you through the merchandise (like IKEA) to get to the counter to purchase apple pockets, donuts, apple dumplings, turnovers, etc. You can eat them outside on deck in adirondeck chairs (bees). Was there on a weekday which was crowded with limited parking.

We were staying nearby so drove up here and I'm glad we did. We at the bag of donuts for 3 days (that's good considering they were fresh) and sipped the cider on the nice porch until the usual bees drove us off. We explored the store while standing in the long line that snakes through it. Good selection and the line moved fast enough. Watched the pressing, wandered over to the wine area and thought it to be a pretty good mill!

This place is for Cider wine lovers. There was no tour of the Mill. Three buildings selling their wares is all there is.

How much time should we plan into our day in terms of a visit to the mill? i.e. how long does it take to tour the mill?
Are dogs allowed?

I don’t know. They don’t seem to be big on enforcing any rules there. Plus most of it is outside. The main shop is indoor, but if they don’t allow dogs you could have one person in your party stay outside with it.

Do I need to make reservations or purchase tickets ahead of time? We are planning to visit in October--a pretty busy season I'd guess.

Clydes is usually open right up until Christmas and then closes until the following season. I enjoy going at the end because of their mark downs. A must see when visiting Southeastern CT in December!
