This museum is small, but has a good deal of information. The staff member was great about this museum and the surrounding area too. They do have a video that runs about 30 minutes that tells of the shrimping industry in the area. Lots of placards about shrimping history, nets, boats and more. Worth the stop to learn about shrimping before everything became farm raised.

Great staff running the place! This is a pretty small place, might take you about 10 minutes to go through everything (plus or minus)

A small but very focused museum that has a video interview with a shrimp fisherman. The fellow at the visitors desk was helpful with information regarding the shrimp industry. the down side was that there was not enough signage to find the place, It is small but the welcome center pointed it out to us.

The great little museum is right on the water and contains lots of interesting information about the history of the shrimping industry in Fernandina/Amelia Island. You can stay as long as you would like and watch the video and learn about Amelia Island's rich history.

This is located right on the marina and gives you a quick education about this area being the shrimp capital of the world.

Although I have lived in Fernandina Beach for 5 years and have been to the Shrimping Museum several times, I wanted to visit by myself and really take my time. Other visits have been around 20 minutes and were very interesting, but this time I spent 80 minutes and learned so much more.
The building itself is not very large and yo can enjoy a quick visit or you can stay longer. The longer you stay, the more you discover. There are not a lot of artifacts, but there is a a very good video to make up for it.
I learned all about shrimping and left with a real appreciation for the history of the people and town of Fernandina. I also left with a craving for local shrimp which I satisfied the following day.

As Amelia Island was once famous for its shrimping industry, it made sense for my friend and I to visit the Museum. here was an very interesting video detailing the rise and sadly the fall of shrimping industry. The number of boats used when it first started, its exports far afield and the many families making shrimping their livelihood. The good news at the end of the video showed how although the scale of shrimp fishing is now small, the industry is still surviving and supported by the local people.
I did find the video a big long however that was a personal view
There are plenty of things to look at eg old shrimping pots, nets and old boats.
The volunteer was really friendly and more than happy to answer any questions.
A nice way to spend as much time as you wanted to .Enjoy

We enjoyed a quick stop here and learned about the history of local shrimping on a video. There’s a little box of dress up for the kids as well that we enjoyed.
