As a history teacher, I was excited to see this site - not only for my personal interest, but to help me get material for my classes. The site is really interesting - the original house is still standing, and seeing the exact spot where she was arrested was worth the trip.
Unfortunately, the place is not managed well. We went with a group of 8 on a Saturday. There were few other visitors there at the time, it wasn't busy. With admission, you are supposed to get a guided tour - but there was no one there to help us. They said "someone will be by soon." Ten minutes later, the guide arrived. The guide knew very little about the site and couldn't answer basic questions. Their spiel was disorganized and confusing.
This was a great place to see, but not tour. Buyer beware.

Visiting the Rebecca Nurse Homestead was an amazing experience! The history that this place holds is unmatched. If you are in the area, this is definitely worth visiting. They also have a great gift shop if you are interested!

A must-visit site on a trip to Salem MA! If you're looking to get a bit of history on your trip, definitely visit the Rebecca Nurse Homestead. It's a bit of a drive from Salem (it's in Danvers) but worth the trip. Getting to see the actual Nurse house and see how people in 1600's New England lived is interesting in its own right, but knowing its where one of the victims of the trials lived really humanizes the whole story of the witch trials. It's also really cool to see the replica of the Salem Village Meeting House. We did not do a tour but were fortunate enough to spend some with with Candace in the Meeting House, who treated us to a long conversation all about the trials, the Nurses, and the life and culture of the Puritans. On a group trip where most of the people were there to celebrate Halloween in Salem, taking a step back from the craziness and visiting this historical site really put the whole story into perspective. I highly recommend!

This is a must see for anyone interested in the Salem witch trials. Just 15 minutes outside Salem. This is the home of one of the innocent people hanged in 1692. Interesting to see how people lived but also to pay respects as Rebecca Nurse might just be buried here.

If you’re interested in the Salem witch trials this is a site you’ll want to see. While it’s a little outside of Salem as we know it today, it is close to the site where the original interrogations began. A replica of the Salem meeting house is at the site while the original spot is a short 5 minute drive near an incredible memorial to the victims. The site itself, especially during these trying times is limited, make sure to check the hours on their website to make sure it’s open. You’ll check in at a desk near the parking lot, where you’ll fill out the forms for contact tracing, etc. from there you’ll head to the visitor center/gift shop to purchase your admission tickets and browse the gift shop, which has an awesome selection. From there, you’ll begin at the homestead, which doesn’t have a lot to it. For me, it was a must see because the Rebecca Nurse story is heart wrenching. Without background information though, it’s a tough sell to pay $9 a person to walk through a house for a total of maybe 5 minutes. The treasure for me here is the family cemetery, which is a short walk on the trail behind the home. Make sure you stick to the trail, as the “shortcut” is very bumpy so please just walk the trail. There is a wonderful monument to Rebecca there, where her family buried her body according to their accounts. Remarkably, George Jacobs, another witch trial victim is buried there, when a skeleton of a believed witch victim was identified and reburied here. Very honestly, if you’re not someone with deep interest in the trials and doesn’t have background knowledge already, this place will not interest you due to how it’s presented right now. But it is historically significant and gives an insight to the personal place from the time lived.

We went to Danvers on the recommendation of a friend who shared that Danvers was, at one time, known as Salem Village. This site was highly rated when we looked for historical sites in the area. We opted to go on a self-guided tour although we were offered the opportunity to tour with a docent. The hours of operation were accurately posted. We had ample time there to tour the historic buildings and walk to the family graveyard. We visited in October on a Sunday. I would highly recommend this site for visitors who are looking for an unhurried, uncrowded historic site from the witch trials era.

Exploring the buildings and grounds of the Rebecca Nurse Homestead in Danvers is the closest experience you can find to actually getting a sense of what it was like to live in Puritan times. The home, graveyard, and outbuildings are all beautifully maintained and provide a true window into the past. Entering the recreation of the Meeting House (the original of which housed the Salem witch trials) sent shivers down my spine. Don't miss this experience!

The homestead is on 27 rolling acres of history. The buildings (updated) are exactly as they were in 1692 (and later). Our docent CANDACE was amazing in her knowledge of history and in her ability to bring the tragedy of one Witch Trial into our hearts. The struggles of the families of those accused of witchcraft and the inability of those who ruled on death for the witches was simply heart breaking. The homestead is alive with history, is generally historically accurate and the explanations are clear and based on historical fact.A must for all members of the family and so much less crowded than Salem.

Go early as this place closes at 3 PM. The tour is less than an hour, but there are grounds to explore and a family graveyard. There is also a rebuilt Shaker Meeting House (in the style of the late 1600s) that has been moved to the property. The tour guide was excellent and extremely knowledgeable. Very worth the time!

Is the tour of the house upstairs and down? Can we just tour the bottom floor if we do a tour as some of us can't climb stairs....Thank You.

It is upstairs as well, but you would be able to do just the downstairs. It has quite vast grounds that you can walk round. We found it quite interesting.

We will be in Danvers on Mon afternoon, Sept 24. It appears to only be open on weekends. Could we wander the grounds and graveyard without going into the home? Or will it actually be open? Thanks!
