This is a wonderful trail just on the side of the town. You feel like your deep into the woods. I was a wonderful hike downhill to see the falls

Downhill hike, worth seeing all 3 locations of the falls, take time to soak it all in. Hike uphill on the way back.

The trail is very steep; best for able-bodied people. There are many trip hazards and rough spots. Interesting but difficult.

Absolutely wonderful trail and beautiful scenery. To be honest it is definitely an intermediate hiking trail. Lots of rocks and roots, some steep area, but over amazing. My family and I (teens) loved it. The reward of seeing beautiful waterfalls is a plus.

The Glen Burney Trail is in Blowing Rock’s backyard. Although there is a small parking lot, the trail access is walking distance from downtown.
Distance from the Trailhead to:
Cascades. 0.8 miles
Glen Burney Falls 1.2 miles
Glen Marie Falls. 1.6 miles

The trail begins as an easy, graded gravel path, and continues to be well maintained to a second wooden bridge a few hundred yards before the Cascades. After that there is little continued path maintenance. The last part of the Cascade portion is fairly steep. The Cascades themselves were average the day we were there. The view is much better from the approach on the return from the falls. After the Cascades the trail continues to be steep. The rocks are embedded in clay so footing can be uncertain, especially if the trail is wet. The trail splits, with a small spur going slightly upstream to Glen Burney Falls. The Falls are definitely worth seeing. The path to the falls is well maintained and relatively flat. The path to Glen Marie Falls continues to challenge, with steep parts and slippery rocks. We did not find either the Upper or Lower Glen Marie Falls worth the effort. The return, while retracing your steps, is more of a cardio workout, but we found ourselves more sure footed going uphill.
If make it as far as the Cascades, I definitely recommend continuing to Glen Burney Falls. The trail to the upper and lower Glen Marie Falls becomes more challenging with little reward.

This was rated "strenuous." I found it pretty tough, being older and out of shape. But it is a very good hike, not trail. There are walking sticks provided at the entrance.

Love this hike, especially in the summer time. My best piece of advice....make sure you wear proper hiking shoes. I made the mistake my first time of not wearing them, and regretted it. Also, probably best to avoid after a rain storm. This is a steep in and out, so it can be tough after some rain. On that point, be aware, the further down you go, the further you will have to go back up. There is not "easy way out" coming back. Otherwise, great trail with waterfalls and cool air.

The Glen Burney Trail is easily accessed in downtown Blowing Rock. (Portable toilets available at the trailhead. )The trail is smothered and covered in rhododendrons so it must be absolutely magical in late spring but even without those blooms it’s a beautiful experience. On your way to Glen Burney Falls you will pass serene cascades as you follow the brook as it tumbles over moss-covered boulders. The path is not for everyone as it is covered in rocks and roots, requiring care not to slip, and there are a few steep sections. Walking sticks are highly recommended although it’s not a strenuous trail, just a good workout with great rewards at the end. At a fork you can choose Glen Marie Falls to the left and Glen Burney to the right, both beautiful. We spent a couple of hours total but you could easily stay longer to linger and perhaps have a picnic on the rocks at the top of the falls. We thoroughly enjoyed this hike and the serenity we experienced. There were very few hikers yesterday but we’re glad we were among them.

My wife and I hike from the trail head to the bottom of Glen Marie trail. The path was steep at times with moderate foot traffic, beautiful rock out cropping's and water falls.

We walked down to the Cascades which is about .8 mile. The trail was a little slippery due to recent rain, but was very well maintained. We did not go further to Glen Burney falls because someone had already told us the vegetation was grown up and you couldn't see the falls well. Wonderful moderate hike!
