Wanderlust Tours took our group on an evening/sunset canoe trip on this lake. Can't recommend it enough! It's awesome. If you have the means to get on the water here, it is beautiful. Not sure about the hiking.

An excellent scenic lake that is much more interesting than many of the others, which are simply round ponds. For these reasons it is extremely popular. Finding a parking spot is just about impossible on a sunny summer day. Avoid if you don't like crowds.

Loved, loved, loved this lake. Stayed four days in the Mallard Marsh Campground. We brought our SUPs and paddled every day. The lake sits in the shadow of Mt. Bachelor, South Sister and Broken Top. Very shallow (average depth is 3 feet) with gin clear water, you see large brook trout swimming below you. This is a fly fishing only lake, barbless hooks, catch and release. Loved paddling through the canals with the reeds on both sides and countless birds singing around you. Summer time weekends this lake can get a bit crowded, but during the week there is room for everyone. We will definitely keep this one on our list of favorite paddling lakes.

Getting crowded, but plenty of space to spread out. Take a picnic and head to north end for the day.

Great lake where you can see the bottom, the fish and good old Mt. Bachelor. If you are in a kayak you go to the end of the lake and can head up the stream a bit.

Wonderful day on Hosmer Lake with our kayaks. Shared the inlets with lots of fellow kayakers & stand up paddle boarders but still a fun adventure- highly recommend. Parking is tight with so many there but everyone was cordial & willing to cooperate at the ramp.

I made my first kayaking visit to Hosmer Lake early in the morning on Labor Day. We were hoping most people were heading home so it should be pretty quiet, and we were right. The parking was pretty light unlike what I’ve heard about most weekends. We were on the lake by 10 am with perfect weather; a bit cool and no wind. You start out at a beautiful smaller lake, then move into a narrow tributary that meanders for quite while and ends at another lake. The views are breathtaking and it’s definitely one of the best experiences I’ve had in central Oregon, and that’s really saying something. I was surprised at how many people were on paddle boards, but it’s a perfect place for that and I hope to try it out myself next summer. This is a must-do experience for water and nature lovers.

This is a beautiful lake to kayak/fly fish on. You paddle on a lake filled with rainbow trout for fly fishing...catch and release. Meander through narrow canals and arrive at a second lake. There is even a waterfall down one of the canals. Heaven on earth.

This is one of the premier spots to kayak in central Oregon. there are beautiful mountain views, lots of ducks and birds, and large fish 🐠 in the lake. The only down side is that it's always busy, which makes it difficult to find a spot to park

Unusual Lake with huge atlantic salmon swing around you can see under your boat kind of secluded but can still get crowded on weekends and holidays parking can be a challenge Plan to go off hours or mid week and bring your kayak take the wandering waterway to the open lake with visible fish everywhere Unique experience worth checking out

When I was a kid we used to rent a canoe from the camp host for day trips. Are there still canoe rentals available?

Hi! We rent to people going up to Hosmer to paddle kayaks and paddleboards! Bend Kayak School and Rentals has all day rentals and we supply padding for your cartop as well as straps etc. We love to get people out on the water and giblve tips on the treasures to find in paddling. :)

Do you know if you can camp outside of the campgrounds? Say, along the water?

there is one primo spot that is not in the campground, which is right on the water. Accessible only by boat, and probably pretty hard to get, because there's always someone there when I paddle by.
Head north towards Bachelor, so go left at every junction in the channels. It's probably about 1 mile north of the boat launch ramp, on your right, as you come out of a narrow channel where it changes into more open water. Stunning spot if you can snag it. Unfortunately because of so many reeds there are almost no campsites right on the water.

We're from out of town and we'd like to kayak Hosmer Lake. Is there someplace other than Bend where we can rent kayaks? Can we rent from Elk Lake and bring to Hosmer?

The last reviewer is correct, your best bet is Bend. There are plenty of places to rent, but it's also not that far from Hosmer to Bend. I was just at the Elk Lake Lodge, and I definitely had the impression that the kayaks and SUP's available for rent, are for that lake only. No take-aways. But, you could always call and double check, phone 541-480-7378.
How much are kayak rentals?

There is no where at Hosmerr Lake to rent. You can however rent from Tumalocreek or enjoy Elk Lake Resort or Cultus Lake in which both have boat rentals at the lodges.
