It is hard to choose a favorite experience but if you are an advanced rider you do have the opportunity to really ride! Try the “roller coaster” or “moonwalk.” They are very careful about safety and rides are geared towards individual ability. The horses are the best cared for of any ranch I’ve gone to and they don’t override them so they aren’t sour and seem to enjoy going out as much as their riders. I especially enjoyed the Arabians since I’m a lifelong quarter horse girl. My suggestions are if you are timid you might want to purchase a riding vest -Tipperary has a good one. Also they offer a laundry service so you can pack according. Other than that the food is fabulous, wranglers and owners are very nice and hands on. Also save a half a day to kick around in the little town of Dubois where they have some nice shops plus in the summer months they have a rodeo and square dancing. Overall a perfect week for us.

Best vacation ever! Wonderful people, beautiful horses, jaw dropping scenery! Very secluded. Met so many new friends from all over the world. The 94 year old owner has led a fascinating life. Food is great, wine on the table every night. If you love horses and a little bit of adventure, go visit the Fox family at Bitterroot Ranch.

If you have some riding experience and wauld like to see gorgeous mountains from the back of a well-trained, well-cared for horse, Bitterroot Ranch is an excellent choice. One or two (your choice) different rides each day, tailored to each guest's preferences and skills. If you prefer to explore on foot or just soak in the scenery from the porch, that's fine, too. Excellent food and accommodations, extremely attentive staff, and interesting fellow guests. Highly recommended!

Of all our ranch vacations, this one offered the most variety of terrains and rides. Every day a different surprise - Wind River and Absaroka ranges, Elk range, river canyons, volcanic ash hills, cattle driving, riding lessons, yoga, fly fishing, easy hikes to great scenery between rides, very well cared for horses, healthy but hearty meals with fresh veggies and wine, immaculate rustic cabins and excellent entertaining and knowledgeable hosts, the Fox family, attending to every detail. A total escape from the business stresses! This was the best ranch vacation we have had. So we're going back again in 2020!

I spent a week at Bitterroot Ranch in September 2019; it's an amazing destination and riding experience. The Fox family care equally for their horses and the guest experience - they work hard to ensure everyone has a positive experience and have fun! The food is great, the accommodations are rustic and comfortable - just what I needed for a week of riding. The staff are also great - from the wranglers to the kitchen staff - everyone works really hard to support the guests. I felt welcome and made so many new friends. Highly recommended!

My husband and I just completed a fantastic week at Bitterroot Ranch. It is the perfect vacation for us as I love to ride horses and he loves to fly fish. It has both and much more. Take a llama for a walk, hike, hunt for arrowheads, commune with nature. The ranch has it all. The food is wonderful and served by young people who want to experience the West. They come from Europe and all parts of the US to work here. The horses are all well trained and it is not just trail riding at a walk. There are long trots and canters through gorgeous country. The wranglers tell the history of each place we ride. The cabins are rustic but very comfortable and situated close to the river so you can enjoy the sounds all night. In July the temperature drops to the 40’s for cool “open window “ rest. There were horses right outside our cabin and a big porch to sit and enjoy a glass of vino. We saw deer, prong horn, badgers, coyotes. The week is capped off by the cattle sorting competition which is great fun and all the riding guests and wranglers participate. It is a great place for families and they have all size horses for the beginner to advanced riders. The Fox family has a winner in Bitterroot.

I surprised my wife with an equestrian adventure at Bitterroot Ranch for her birthday. Not being experienced riders, we opted for three days of riding rather than booking an entire week. While the three days offered plenty of riding, we hated to leave after he final day. The Fox family warmly welcomed all of their guests. They personally led many of the rides and joined the group each day for meals. The wranglers and staff were friendly and helpful. The accommodations consisted of comfortable rustic cabins. Meals were varied and balanced. Our previous riding experience was entirely trail riding on horses trained to play "follow the leader". While the riding at Bitterroot is on trails in groups, the terrain was interesting and challenging and all of the horses were extremely capable and up to the task. Over the course of our stay at the ranch my wife and I both improved as riders, met some great people, and thoroughly enjoyed a beautiful part of Wyoming. I suspect we will be back some day.

Our week-long visit to Bitterroot ranch and the wonderful Fox family really was my holiday-of-a-lifetime.
All four of us are experienced riders, and i am an equestrian professional, so we were really looking for a great riding holiday -and it truly was....
An astoundingly beautiful location in the heart of Wyoming, great horses suited to the needs of every rider, beautiful and varied trails, wonderful hosts, great wranglers, attention to details and to safety... I could go on and on... Good food, very cute and comfortable acco...
We went on a pack trip which was extremely well organised by Richard and Chilly and took us through great terrain, all the way up to Castle Rock. Camping by the river, campfire, horses grazing nearby...
But mostly it was all about the people -seriously professional, warm, funny...
In just a week, we felt that we belonged there...
Thank you so much Richard, Hadley, Bayard and Mel for the way you are so passionate...

This ranch is so true to the western riding experience, my wife and I just got back from our second visit in two years. At Bitterroot, it is all about the horses and horsemanship. If you want extraordinary riding this is the placde. Nestled between two mountain ranges, and butting right up to the Shoshone National Forest (home of Yellowstone Park), Bitterroot Ranch has the best natural scenery, the best footing for long rides and lovely canters, and millions of acres to ride in. In a week's riding, twice a day, don't expect to see the same view repeated. They have so many trails ...

The wranglers are wonderful and the Fox family is amazingly knowledgeable about horses. The trail rides were unparrelled. My wife insists that she only learned how fun riding horses can be at Bitterroot Ranch.

This is a ranch for serious riders. The food is good to wonderful The accommodations are rustic, like the real West. The hosts are intelligent and forthright. If all you care about is spas and high class entertainment, you might want to look elsewhere. But if you love to ride, Bitterroot Ranch is Nirvana.

If quality horses, stunning terrain, sightings of wildlife and wildflowers, great food, and a staff that goes all out to please, is what you are seeking in a riding vacation, this is the place to go. It was an awesome experience, and the Fox family and their staff have my sincere thanks!
