RIU Ocho Rios Review 2024 I want to begin by saying that this trip to Jamaica was my first but will definitely not be my last. I traveled to Jamaica with my wife, daughter and 25 friends and family on Sunwing Airlines. We flew out of Moncton, New Brunswick and had a direct flight to Montego Bay. We left on Sunday, March 10th and returned on Sunday, March 17th. The flights were great and were on time. We arrived at the Sangster International Airport at 1:30 pm on Sunday and were met by our private transport driver, Tyson who works for RCM Tours. Tyson was great! He had some beers for the adults and some pops for the kids in a cooler which was greatly appreciated. He also stopped twice for us to replenish our supplies on the drive to the resort which took about an hour. I highly recommend Tyson and Rocky from RCM Tours if you want private transportation. Once at the resort, we were checked in quickly by the front desk and were on our way to our rooms. The rooms were very clean and tidy and had a King sized bed and a balcony. In the room there was a telephone, an iron, an ironing board, a hair dryer, a flat screen TV and a safe. There were only a few outlets in our room, which we were aware of, so we brought an extension cord and a power bar from home; which is a must. The bar fridge was stocked every second day with your choice of pop, beer, water, etc which you could request through the app or call the front desk. The air conditioning and ceiling fan in the room kept the room quite comfortable. As we explored the resort we found that there were two swim up bars (no children allowed-sorry) at opposite ends of the resort and two family pools directly adjacent to these pools. These pools were lifeguard supervised from 10 am to 6 pm daily and were quite clean. There were also plenty of loungers to be found and it was the first time that we didn’t have to be up at the crack of dawn while on vacation to reserve seating. There was also a small water park for the kids at the far end of the resort consisting of a section for the smaller children and another for the older children. The bigger park has about 6 slides and is very safe as the staff are strict in a good way! The beach was amazing and was one of the best I have ever seen at a resort. It is all sand and the water is beautiful. There were lifeguards up and down the beach which is quite big. There were plenty of loungers all over the beach and we were always able to find seating for all of us no matter how late we got up. We brought bread and bananas with us to the beach from the buffet in the morning to feed the tropical fish which were everywhere. The sea life was amazing so I suggest that you bring a mask and snorkel! There were many bars throughout the resort including the two swim ups, the Dunn’s River bar, and the two bars on the beach, plus there were a few others sprinkled throughout the resort including the sports bar which was open 24/7. It served both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks as well as coffee, cappuccino and espresso. The sports bar had two pool tables and also had plenty of chairs and a DJ on certain nights. It was a great spot to hang out. The grounds of this resort were very impressive. The groundskeepers were constantly pruning, cutting and whipping the grounds to keep them looking amazing. The bathrooms at this resort were always very clean and the resort as a whole was spotless in my opinion. Many thanks to the maintenance and cleaning staff as they did a fantastic job! Now the food! The food at this resort was the best I have personally ever encountered while on vacation in any country. The main buffet was so good that we ate there most nights. We also tried the Italian restaurant and the Steak House and both were amazing! The food at this resort really made it stand out in my opinion. There were plenty of options for every palate from the picky eater to the adventurous. There was a variety of seafood as well. There was also a gourmet restaurant called Kulinarium and an Asian Buffet called Mandalay. We did not try these but we heard great things from our friends. Lastly, there was a jerk chicken restaurant down by the main pool called Pepe’s that was simply incredible! They opened around 11 am and served until mid afternoon. The jerk chicken was the best I had ever eaten. And last but certainly not least, I have to talk about the amazing people that worked at the resort. The service at this resort was top notch! They couldn't do enough for you. Whether it was the servers at the buffet restaurant, the bartenders at one of the many bars, the cleaning staff, the groundskeepers or the front desk help, they were all there to make your vacation a memorable one. I would like to thank many of them personally for making my trip awesome. My housekeeper was Monique and she cleaned our room 3044. She was very sweet and made animals out of the towels for my daughter and she made our room sparkle. She is an amazing person and is very good at her job. The bar staff I encountered were numerous but I will name as many as I can remember. They were all great mixologists and a lot of fun! They were Nigel, Dameon, Curtroy, Jahmealia, Daneil, Rashiedi, Shemmoye, and Akeem. A special thanks goes out to the wonderful Shevelle who went above and beyond to allow my buddy and I to play our guitars and sing some songs for the patrons of the Sports Bar one night. She had to ask for special permission and this really made our trip. I want to thank her for making this happen as she could just as easily have said no to us. And last, but not least my friend Nicardo who always gave us the best service in the buffet. His smile is infectious and he is a very genuine person who takes great pride in his work. Thanks for everything buddy! Overall, this resort has something for everyone and is fantastic in every way. If you are reading poor reviews of this resort, I would ignore them. If you book here you will not be disappointed. We had the time of our lives and can't wait to go back.…
