In the morning, look over to the beech and see if you will have it to yourself for a walk.

We love Murlough Bay - challenge your fitness and park at the top and walk down but remember its a long way back up!
White Park Bay beach is fab.

“A stunning base to travel around the region; perfect apt. quality/location”

My husband needed to be in N. Ireland (Belfast) a few days for work in August so we decided to tour N. Ireland (we've been to the Republic of Ireland many times as my husband is Irish/I'm American) for the first time. I attempted to do a lot of research/internet searching for an upscale but not absurdly expensive hotel where we could base ourselves in the N.E. or center of N. Ireland (primarily wanting to see the Giants Causeway, Bushmill's Distillery, etc.).

I considered Lough Erne Resort (where the G8 recently stayed for their summit) but for the suite I wanted it was a ridiculous sum (GBP 800++/night) and when looking at their website, the accommodation looked like it has not been renovated in a few decades; not worth the price at all. Galgorm looked very inviting, but I wanted to reserve the individual cottages which were all booked up (and a superior river view room was over GBP 340/night; again, not really worth it as no privacy and looked like a basic room with potentially a nice view....). We didn't want to base ourselves in Belfast either. So, for the first time ever, I thought we could try to book a vacation rental (i.e. serviced apt). I saw several inviting apts (or at least they looked so online...) but sending out 10 inquiries, I received only one reply and that was from Ms. Breige Conway of Water's Edge; throughout my subsequent correspondence with her by email, she was professional, caring and very quick with immediate replies.

The apt. itself for our stay was GBP 80/night, so for our four nights, we paid the equivalent price of a single night at one of these other resorts; that itself was appealing, but wow, we were then stunned by how beautiful the location of the apartment was...right on the shore of Cushendun Bay which has a direct view (albeit from afar) of the Scottish Mull of Kintryre. If you drive the headland of Torr Head, you'll see the most amazing views of the Antrim Coast.

I was concerned about privacy and potential noise from above as the apt. is on the ground floor and Breige said most likely (but could not be certain as the apartments are rented out by individual owners) it would be very quiet...and it was. The apt. is on the ground floor but you have to climb up some stairs to get to it (there is ample parking below) and as the apt. is at the end of this walkway, no one walks by and you are up one flight from the parking lot/anyone walking around, so over cocktails (and during the typical Irish "light" rain about ten times/day), we could sit with the window open and have an unobstructed view of the bay. Fabulous (the perfect bay view and so inexpensive compared to all the resorts we checked out). Plus, you walk outside and the beach is right there...we took 3-hour walks along the beach and scenic Torr Head....just beautiful and so quiet...even with a few tourists--mostly Irish campers from a nearby holiday vehicle site--I felt like we had the entire area to ourselves). We were so pleased with our choice!

The apt. itself is lovely. Breige was waiting for us when we arrived. Her welcome basket of coffee/sugar/bread and butter was very thoughtful. The interior design is modern/comfy/spacious. There are two lovely bedrooms (and bathrooms) but one could easily sleep on the sofa in front of the fireplace as well (where I had a few naps myself...). We ordered extra logs and had roaring fires (and some lovely wines/whiskeys we brought with us) each night. The apt. was immaculately clean, showers strong and hot (and two bars of handmade Irish lavender were also a thoughtful gift), duvets fluffy down...we could not have asked for more in a serviced apt: great interiors/fireplace/bay view/amazing beach/hill walks....

However, (and it's not really a complaint..it is what it is and I expect most people on vacation don't want to be online constantly....), the village of Cushendun has a population of about 100 (we were told that goes down to 50+ in the winter....): there is no internet in Cushendun. There is one pub that serves food until 5:30 pm (but drinks later into the night...we were also told during off-season, the pub is only open on the weekends) and one tea house that serves food until 6pm. There is a good little shop to pick up groceries/food/sending post, etc. That's it. Just be warned that you have to drive to Cushendall (about 20 minutes away...) to get internet service; we did so by having two of our meals at "Harry's" (quite good) which does have internet, so we had drinks, internet and dinner (and used a fine local taxi driver to/from...again, inexpensive and worth being able to drink!). Two nights we ordered fabulously greasy comfort food from "The Half Door" (around the corner from Harry's) and heated it up in the apt's microwave and stove which worked very well. Breige has a booklet of where to eat, taxi numbers, places of interest, etc. so it's easy to figure out all one needs while staying there (and we were able to call/sms her at any time).

We have already been telling friends/colleagues that this was the best choice we could have possibly made during our tour of the N.E. of Northern Ireland. Whether one is touring around, or just lazing about, the Water's Edge was perfect (I could easily see myself renting the apt. for a month or two and just enjoying the tranquility--with a trip to Cushendall now and then to check emails! My husband had a blackberry so he was able to check our emails from the apt....so there is always a solution in any case!).

“Beautiful location...& relaxation....”
5 5 étoiles Avis écrit le 19 août 2013 Séjour en juillet 2013

Myself & 2 boys 9 & 11yrs…stayed in this lovely apartment for 2 nights, July 2013…during our “heatwave!” It has fantastic views & with the slow pace of life, you begin to unwind immediately!. The children had great fun playing on the rocks & caves just around the corner as well as the beach, just across the bay!
The apartment itself has a very high standard of fixtures and fittings & is beautifully & tastefully furnished. The kitchen had everything we required..alot of extras provided by Breige, which you would normally have to buy, when staying in self-catering accommodation. We were very impressed with the apartment,& the stunning scenery of the area around Cushendun, is absolutely gorgeous.. & would highly recommend a visit!! Day trips to near buy Ballycastle is a must for children!!…
