How to give a global note? It was so tricky since many different mixed experiences. So, we tried to be fair and honest, and spend some of our time to build this complete feedback with our experience from a European-Asian couple having travelled extensively and the two cultures into consideration.
The location and the ocean view will get a clear and obvious 5/5 with this amazing great spot on the cliff.
The architecture is outstanding, white, minimalist and contemporary with Bali reinterpreted touches: a Balinese Mies van der Rohe dream. Clearly less is more here! From a visual point of view, this is perfection: an outstanding world-class structure, the ultimate spot for design-conscious travelers. So it gets an easy 5/5. Sometimes, it is annoying for your rest & view, when a group of hotel guests take numerous photos... so it looks like a photo shoot disney.
The decoration is okay with a clear masculine-only adopted approach. It lacks however few contemporary art paintings and statues. At least, one at the villa. It is a bit too standardized & unfortunately not personalized. 4/5
The one-bedroom villa itself: the space, the map, the facilities are excellent. The key drawback is the ocean view. Since the villas are far from the cliff & reception area, the view is good but rather limited. We would have loved a power plug in the “pool cube area”. This great rest cube is however too close from the neighbored one; so your intimacy is potentially at stake here. Luckily for us, there were no neighbors during our stay. 4/5
The cleanness & refueling at the villa are excellent. 5/5
At such level, for refueling, except the water, it is lacking complimentary stuff as provided in other excellent places such as frequently replenished mini-bar in your room, international daily newspaper in your room, afternoon tea, evening cocktails and canapes, laundry… You get however a coffee espresso machine in your master room. Stranger: no personal butler is attached to the villa. We are lacking this ocean of attentive services. On this topic: 1/5
Breakfast at CIRE: the setting is gorgeous. You get an unlimited a-la-carte service with a daily menu. It is very nice to choose. On the other hand, you have to wait. Personally for breakfasts, we are still very much in the “old’ working-so-well buffet, organic if possible. Portions are tapas. Excellent fruit juices. Espresso is great; cappuccino is light but excellent too. Some dishes were inadmissible at such level: disgusting impossible-to-eat mini-waffle (so far from real Belgium ones), artificial-like strawberry (?) jam, industrial sandwich-ready Gouda cheese… and instead of mentioned Brie, we got pasteurized tiny industrialized no-flavor Reblochon-like at most… Obviously, it did not give any gourmet the will to dinner there. Sorry, we did not try the restaurant and therefore, we can not judge it. On the breakfast: 3/5
Dinner at WARUNG: excellent cuisine. Great talk to curious and warm server. Bravo. 5/5
The spa: why on earth with such a location and view, the small spa was not given any view? Not understandable. We got a very annoying disagreement at the booking of our complimentary spa treatment included in our package. Why was it so approximated, unclear and painful? When we finally made our treatment (correct, not ‘wow’), we were surprised to find our shoes wet, left outside in the rain. Not to mention, we were proposed some tea after the spa, as it is so needed and usual… that we did not get without asking it finally... After this not-relaxing episode, not a single commercial gesture (sic). Even though, the staff kept a constant smiley and are all very nice, and apologized, we did not want clearly to take additional treatments! So without any doubt, a 0/5
Fitness: very dark male decoration, standard, no particular view, small, sanitized, no bicycle, no TV screens in equipment… The open shower there is strange in the sense that when you take it with bath and shampoo gel, all dirty foams goes into the adjacent plant pool (sic for the environment)… 3/5
Lobby: Waiting once at the reception, well positioned at the crossroad of all paths, I counted once up to 11 smiley staffs standing there… We could easily divide by 3 or even 4. Even if it is obviously for your good, it is a bit disturbing to see several of them, waiting, willing obviously to help you, even when you have nothing to ask. Once, we booked a hotel car with driver to visit the neighbored Uluwatu temple and a dinner at Bulgari (by the way, do not dinner there…). When we left for the personal tour, we were then embarked in fact instead in a taxi (sic). It took us several minutes to realize that another mistake had been done. Annoying experience. Therefore it can not be higher than a 2/5. A last point: we were on a wedding anniversary trip, as mentionne during our booking. Not a single particular attention made, a sopposed to ther hotels. E.g. a card, a flower, a drink, a word...
Before our departure, we met a friendly, talkative, lively, good English speaking staff. The check-out was efficient, friendly, warm with the presence of GM.
As our conclusion, an ocean of real efficient attentive services, not an army of smileys, need to be enforced to turn this sanitized outstanding hotel into one of the world hippest spot. It is pity, since we were initially looking to book bigger villas with and for friends...
Finally, for this stay, the average of our global feedback is unfortunately 3,3
