Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review about The Samara. We take the comfort and wellbeing of all our guests very seriously, and we are very sorry to hear that your stay was not a pleasant one. It goes without saying that we underperformed in terms of service and overall quality, and I would like to take this opportunity to apologize and try to understand what went wrong.
First of all, thank you for your nice words about our staff. They always try their best, and never spare a drop of sweat for our guests. It's our most precious asset.
The restaurant: We serve a high quality selection of Indonesian dishes and Italian specialties, with fresh ingredients that we grow ourselves in our small garden, or that we buy from local suppliers and very rarely from a supermarket. Some of our creations are becoming very popular already among the locals and over the Internet, and other than growing some vegetables we proudly produce our own bread and all our pastries.
However, we know that not everybody has the same tastes in terms of food, and we are sorry you didn't give us a feedback immediately as we could have had offered you an alternative or even a reimbursement. For sure we would have had appreciated to know what went wrong in order to correct any mistake that might have happened in the kitchen. Our apologies if your culinary experience at our Dolce Arancia restaurant was not as good as expected.
The afternoon tea: Every day all our guests can enjoy a complimentary tea served with some biscuits or cakes. Our choice of tea include ginger, jasmine, lemongrass, green tea, black, lemon. With the tea we also serve a selection of biscuits that we prepare with our own hands, such as chocolate cookies, coconut, raisins, ginger, blueberry, and some Indonesian sweets such as fried bananas and kue dadar. I can only guess at this point that we will have to increase our selection, or that for some mistake you got everyday the same biscuits. If this is the case, again, please accept our apologies.
Our room size: We designed our rooms for couples. We do not accept kids and this helped us reducing the size of the rooms in order to create a resort that would not have a too high impact on the surroundings and the rice fields all around us. When walking up Jalan Kajeng, the beautiful stroll where The Samara is located among the rice fields in Ubud, you will notice our presence only when about 50 meters away, as we tried to integrate as much as possible by even keeping the original rice terrace steps untouched. Our room size is nonetheless not a secret: Our website clearly states the size being 27m2, and the same information appears on all online agent websites where we appear such as booking.com and asiarooms.com
Our swimming pool: For sure its size of 10 meters by 4 does not allow for too much exercise, but it gives a feeling of intimacy and romance that are rarely seen around, especially with the breathtaking view over the rice fields and at night time the incredible light show performed by the fireflies around and the stars in the sky with the palm trees on the horizon. And the fact that there are only six rooms means that the pool is rarely occupied by more than a couple of guests at a time.
Our resort design: when we designed the resort we also had to consider the safety of our guests. To enjoy the best possible view we did not build any wall around the property, but having the rooms positioned on the edge of an unprotected border would have been an hazard, even in a very peaceful and safe environment such as Ubud. For sure the restaurant can be in the way, but having breakfast every morning while watching the ducks herding in the fields is a unique experience as it is sipping a drink in the afternoon while looking at the beautiful bucolic panorama.
It is however true that some rooms have better view than others, but this usually applies to every hotel in the world, even a five-star one, where your room is facing either the pool, the sea, the city, or even a wall. And there are very few hotels in the world where you can have privacy with your doors and curtains completely open, which can instead happen at The Samara.
Wi-Fi: We are located in the middle of the rice fields. No cables run from town to The Samara other than electrical ones. No DSL, no phone line, no fiber optic. Our phone connection is gsm based, and this also means that we had to install a dedicated satellite receiver to have internet connection, and sometimes this connection can vary in its quality and strength. That's why we advertise in our website and in our online agents' pages that wi-fi is only available in public areas. However, we are lucky enough to have an antenna that can serve almost the whole resort area, so that our guests can enjoy, for free, a very fast connection also in their rooms, so fast that several guests can Skype or FaceTime at the same time, which in Bali is a rarity. However please accept our apologies if from time to time the signal level may be lower than usual given to adverse meteorological conditions, or provider's faults, and one of our rooms can be only partially covered by the wireless internet signal.
Finishings quality: The Samara is not a five-star hotel, however we tried to make the interiors with the best local materials we could get. In Ubud the humidity percentage can reach 100% and it rains substantially more than in any other area of the island of Bali, and this does not help as far as life expectation of finishings and fixtures goes. We strive to take care and repair all cracks and faults on our appliances and furniture of which we become aware of, and also here the feedback of our guests helps a lot. We will for sure investigate the room you were staying in and resolve all problems you noticed. Our apologies for any inconvenience created.
Value: We cannot express any opinion over your available budget, but we can guarantee that we are very competitive in Ubud as far as the quality-price value ratio is concerned. However, this does not exonerate us from performing at the top of our abilities, and thanks to your feedback and the feedback of all our guests we will work harder and harder to ensure all our guests can enjoy a memorable experience at The Samara.
Please do not hesitate to contact me directly should you need any further assistance or should you wish to provide me with more feedback, and I will gladly reply to you in private. Should you ever decide to come back to Bali I will be more than happy to give you my personal assistance throughout your next stay at The Samara Villas and Restaurant in Ubud.
