First, if you have any issues with driving up steep, windy, precarious dirt roads, this is not the place for you! The house itself and the view is beautiful and fairly comfortable. Completely off the grid, and very much a part of the mountain jungle itself. We saw monkeys, neat frogs, hummingbirds, toucans, and other cool wildlife within feet of the house. The kitchen has a big refrigerator, gas stove, and a green mango tree arms length away.
Second, there was no Internet as advertised OR hot water. The week before we traveled to this house, the owner emailed me with news that he couldn't get the Internet fixed but was still working on it. A young girl arrived the night we got there with a Internet stick that apparently everyone uses there. Didn't work in either our Mac or pc laptops. Next day another nice neighbor came by and couldn't make it work either but later on brought a router, which did work ..... Until he came back and took it away while we were gone the next day! In its stead he left a new-in-box router with a European plug that wouldn't work in costa rica! So, no Internet. For the day we did have Internet, I emailed the owner that the hot water wasn't working in the shower and the toilet was broken. He had left his cell phone number in previous emails, but we had no cell service and the landline phone at the house wasn't connected. Anyway, we never heard back from him, even thoughnhe was obviously in touch with the neughbor. We did rig up a temporary fix for the toilet, but never did get hot water.
All in all a nice place, but it would have been a much more pleasant experience if the owner had been more attentive and truthful,

Hi Scott & Evie,
As the owner and creator of Casa Loma, renting through a professional management company for the better part of seven years, I was genuinely upset about the internet and hot water kinks you experienced on your visit, although also very gratified to hear how much you enjoyed your stay in all other aspects.
Casa Loma provides a unique jungle experience as you rightly point out, and for many years now we have many satisfied guests who return again and again. I also want to apologize for not being able to work out a better solution to any difficulties you encountered. Even my neighbor Jimmy, whom you mention, was bummed that his efforts to address the internet problem and that his normally prodigious MacGyver computer skills fell short. In part due to your comments, we have installed redundant internet connections now so this issue does not recur, this includes a new technology Mi-Fi router!
Respectfully the owner
