I spent a week at Safe Haven with my boyfriend at the end of August for a bit of peace and quiet and relaxation in a part of the country we both love. Safe Haven gave us everything we expected and more.
Meena and Grant did everything they could to accommodate us and live right across the road from the cottage and so were on hand if we needed them.
The cottage has only just been renovated (July 2013) and so everything is to the high standard I was looking for, we were the 5th people to stay there!
The kitchen was modern and well equipped, including a dishwasher which saved us a load of time (and effort) on washing up.
Bedding was clean and cosy, with two feather pillows each on the king size bed. The towels were also large and fluffy and the bathroom was clean and spacious with separate shower and a deep bath. Hot water was always on hand.
The decor is modern, comfortable and clean and there was even a lovely bunch of fresh flowers in a vase waiting for us in the kitchen.
I'd imagine this place would make a perfect retreat for couples with one or two small children, or just for the two of you like us, and we noticed almost everybody living there has a dog!
Both neighbours' dogs and cats were out in the communal garden most of the time but there was a private fenced off garden just for the cottage which we spent an evening BBQing in (and spoiling the kittens with bits of meat) They were also very friendly people and we spoke a few times during the week.
The surrounding area is very pretty and while the village itself does not boast many shops it did have an excellent butchers (try the lamb steaks with mint rub on the BBQ in the garden!) and the closest pub (The New Inn) served up some fantastic food in their little bistro through the back (don't let the decor put you off!) The pub also had a massive beer garden with picnic tables and a decent selection of beers and ales. Spacious Par beach was an (unfit) 20 min walk down a country lane and was good for a stroll and a paddle.
We enjoyed a walk along the coastal path from Par beach to tiny Polkerris where we shared a delicious bowl of Moules Marinere at Sam's on the Beach and a few pints in The Rashleigh Inn while the sun set across the bay.
Overall we both had a fantastic time and found it very hard to go back to work the following Monday!

Having to walk everywhere but that was because we didn't have a car!
