We arrived at Quinta de Reciao on a Friday evening after a long drive, We proudly patted ourselves on the back for making it without a scratch on the rental car in spite of the steep (10%) and narrow roads with many U-turns (the house is 7 km from Lamego, with no lit roads after dark). We were warmly welcomed by Francisca's mother, who showed us around the quinta, and we agreed to pay the rent in full on Monday.
Much to our surprise we received a text message later that evening from Francisca in which she demanded payment in full, in cash by the next morning.
I explained to Francisca that the cash coudn't be collected on such short notice (considering the max withdrawal of 200 Euro/day from ATM). I offered a downpayment of 100 euro on Saturday morning, with the rest following on Monday morning. The response was rather rude: pay up now, or leave!
So we left the next morning and left 45 Euro on the table for the stay.
