We stayed at Vale Cegonha a couple of years ago and enjoyed it so much that we decided to go back this year.
We were driving up from Faro and heading much further into central Portugal. Vale Cegonha made a lovely stop off point on the way.
The Location: Close to the small but pretty town of Ourique with a great Pingo Duce supermarket where you can get just about everything you need in the way of provisions. From the town it's just one winding road. In May the storks were nesting on platforms all along the road, we had some great views of them. The house is set back off the road on a dirt track; it has a lovely hilltop position looking over the private land of the home.
The House: The building looks traditional, painted blue and white but is quite new. It is split into two halves with two bedrooms in each and an adjoining door if it is one big family or group staying. As we are just a couple we rented half of the house.
