The location of Villa la Vela is superb. Nestling under grand hills and mountains, often topped by the remains of Moorish towers, the light changes dramatically during the day and into the evening. If you prefer water to crags, then leave the villa gates, cross the country road, unlock your private gate, step through a tropical bamboo corridor onto an unspoilt and private rock platform overlooking a secluded bay studded with breathtakingly shaped rock pinnacles. Now, here is the clincher. I have never swum in a crystal clear sea before (nor any sea for that matter), so when my kids stuffed a mask on my face and then a snorkel into my trembling mouth, it was all a bit of a shock - nothing like the shock of seeing all of the fish, sea urchins, anemones and even an octopus face-to-face! I was the one who was hooked!
But sorry, I digress - back to the villa. Bright, spotless, spacious, well equipped and beautifully private. Well cared for as well, unlike some rentals. The smashing...
