It was a long day and Tim the bus driver kept us going with bits of information as we drove down "the track" but to me the highlight was the boat trip and a huge shout out to the young woman who was our guide and boat driver on the Gorge. I'm so sorry I can't remember her name but she was engaging, funny and knowledgeable and had nija boat driving skills.

A day tour with a hike to Leliyn - Edith Falls which included a quick dip at the natural pool and then to Nitmiluk National park to see the Katherine gorge inclusive of a boat ride sounded exhaustive, but this was exactly what the Autopia tours have nicely compressed into their package to this part of the Northern Territory. Distance from Darwin was several hundred kilometres and our group comprised of a mix of young and elderly. We were picked up from the hotel around 6.30 in the morning while it was still dark and we were able to witness the sunrise along our way on the Stuart Highway heading to Adelaide River where we broke journey at the "Adelaide River Post office and store" for refreshing and picking up food items for breakfast and or lunch. This was an interesting rural café, post office and a store where we were able to get coffee and pick up some delicious Sandwiches to take for our lunch on-the-go. Our driver guide “Rick” gave us a fantastic commentary about Darwin during the second world war and the consequences of bombings and he explained many other things of tourist value in the areas we were crossing during the journey. He took us passing the World War II cemetery in Adelaide River which was supposed to be the only one in Australian soil, which appeared to be very well maintained and then to the old causeway across Adelaide River showing us the level to which this river rose during the last devastating floods which submerge a large land mass. We had another stop at Pine Creek to refresh ourselves and finally arrived at Leliyn “Jawoyn Leliyn Kiosk” where we refreshed again and began our hike, first to the Bemang lookout of Edith falls and then to the upper pool for a quick dip and thereafter proceeded to get back to the bus. Rick took care of us by joining us on the hike and always remained closer to the weaker elderly to make them feel safe and assisted. The hike was a bit strenuous in warm weather, a bit more than expected for some but with a slower pace everyone was able to complete the loop to hurry to the next destination. Edit Fall was very pretty cascading down in two tiers. Water temperature was extremely soothing for the bathers.
Boat operators were ready and waiting to welcome us for the boat ride and Autopia travels have pre-booked our tickets and it was a quick transfer on a ramp to the awaiting boat to commence the tour. The Katherine gorge tour was excellent and memorable. The pre-historic rock art were marvellous. The tour was well organised and we were in safe and caring hands of the driver guide “Rick” who did an excellent job.

This trip is long. It starts at 6:30 AM. I would have liked to have had hotel pick up. The trip ended at 9:30 PM. The bus was new and there was space for 27 people. The Driver/Guide was very good. The drive is boring. We did stop twice to buy snacks and lunch. I would wait and buy lunch at the snack shack at Edith Falls. We were able to swim at the pond at Edith Falls which was refreshing. The cruise through Katherine gorge was very good.

Hi there,
Thank you for sharing your feedback! 🌟 We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the swim at Edith Falls and the cruise through Katherine Gorge — such beautiful highlights of the trip!
We’re also pleased that the driver/guide contributed positively to your experience and that the new bus provided a comfortable journey. However, we understand that the long day and lack of hotel pickup may have been a drawback for you. Your suggestion to grab lunch at the snack shack at Edith Falls is noted and could be helpful for future travelers.
Thank you for your honest comments; they help us improve while ensuring our guests have memorable experiences. We hope to welcome you back for another adventure!
Kind regards,

Interesting commentary. Had to fact check a couple of things because there were a couple of comments that were just amazing. I like to learn though so piquing my curiosity is always a great day.
Stunning scenery and lovely swimming holes enjoyed. Easy day of sitting back and relaxing with regular leg stretching opportunities.

Thank you for your wonderful feedback! We're thrilled to hear that you enjoyed the high-energy, full-day experience and found the trip worth it. Our team works hard to balance the itinerary with both information and enjoyment, and we're glad to hear the driver’s insights and the boat guide’s wit made for a memorable day. The Gorge is certainly a highlight, and we’re pleased you found it impressive. We hope to have you back on another adventure soon!

Had a fantastic day trip to Edith Falls & Katherine Gorge. Our driver Ethan was full of knowledge & was able to answer any question asked. Added bonus was his play list & singing voice

It's an epic day but well worth it to see Katherine Gorge. Breathtaking! My only feedback to the tour guide is to be less flippant with comments such as: 'oh well, if they're late we'll just leave', and then not seeming to check numbers very thoroughly. I was previously been left behind in regional WA by a thoughtless tour guide who decided to leave five minutes before the agreed time and didn't do a proper head count. When we book these tours we put our trust in the tour guide to look after us - particularly in remote locations where there isn't always wifi or a way to get home! I know NT has a very relaxed approach, but there are some things we shouldn't be relaxed about.

Whilst our tour guide Naomi was very knowledgeable and informative, and the boat cruise along the river was spectacular, the rest of the trip was very rushed. There was nowhere to buy food at the national park (other than chips or ice cream), so we stopped along the way at a petrol station at 8am and was told we had 10 minutes to go to the bathroom and buy our lunch there (pre made sandwhiches) before getting back on the bus.
Once we completed our boat cruise at Katherine Gorge we were told we had 15 minutes to eat lunch before being rushed off to Edith Falls. No time to relax while eating lunch and take in the serenity or to see the visitor centre, explore any of the bush walks or take photos from vantage points above the gorge as described in the tour description and shown in photos.
When we got to Edith falls we only had 1 hour which included getting changed into and out of swimming gear and exploring the gift shop before needing to get back on the bus. Again, tour description said we would be there for 3 hours but this was certainly not the case. No time to explore the upper pools or walking trails at Edith falls as shown and described.
To summarise it was 9 hours of driving in a small bus with no wifi for a 2 hour boat cruise and a 15 minute swim at Edith falls. I don’t feel like we got to spend enough time at each place or do everything that was described. We physically couldn’t have done it any quicker to allow for the guided walks or anything. The swimming spots at Litchfield are much better (and 3 hours each way closer to Darwin) than Edith Falls and looking back it would have been better to spend the full day at Katherine Gorge exploring the bush trails and swimming instead of being rushed off. Although we did experience some delays due to roadworks, it would’ve only accumulated to 15 minutes max and still wouldn’t have allowed for more time if there were no delays. The time limits described at each place includes the travel time, not actual time at each location.
I’m glad I experienced it but for costing over $300, next time I think I will do it myself at my own pace so I can experience everything.

Today's tour Darwin to Katherine
Not at all happy - advertised start time of 6:30am at Travelodge but I got message at 6:19am while eating breakfast that they were waiting for us out the front so wasn't able to finish my meal. Now I am a diabetic who needs to eat and complete meals as well as taking medication. Driver says they are trying to adjust their times.
When we get to Katherine Gorge we were at least 30 minutes early to sit and stand around which isn't good for my osteo arthritis back !!
Then for lunch got there at 1:20pm, driver says we have 30 minutes but once again we get hussled out earlier.
Bloody whistle on this mini-bus, drives me nuts
