The destinations on this trip are well worth a visit, however our day was ruined by the manager of Kenya Tours and Safaris. I’ve noticed that negative reviews are rebuffed by the company. Given my experience I’m inclined to believe the reviewers.

Prior to the trip, We had the same odd booking experience as mentioned in other reviews - cancellation through the website and a request via WhatsApp to pay direct. There is no reasonable explanation offered for this practice so it’s a fair assumption made by other reviewers that Kenya Tours and Safaris are probably trying to dodge payments due to the agent. It was a red flag for us and cause for concern, however we were booking relatively short notice. Tickets to the elephant orphanage were not available directly. Via WhatsApp, Kenya Tours and Safaris told us that they had tickets to the orphanage reserved, that we needed to pay immediately to secure the reservation and guarantee our visit to the elephant orphanage.

We paid in good faith on the basis that this was our opportunity to visit the elephant orphanage. The tour was exclusive of entrance fees but we were paying for the guide and transportation throughout the day. We were expecting this to be a joining safari… you’ll notice throughout Kenyan Tours and Safaris responses to reviews that they claim this is the only format they offer.

Our guide, Titus, was late to pick up from our hotel. This was no a good start and staff at the hotel mentioned that had the delay been communicated we would have been served breakfast, which was irritating. Titus more than made up for this by being knowledgable and taking a proactive approach to find the animals in Nairobi National Park. We also found we were the sole occupants of the van, which was unexpected. A safari is only as good as the guide and this part of the trip was excellent - it’s a shame that the subsequent malpractice and appalling behaviour of Kenya Tours and Safaris management marred our memory of this trip.

On arrival at the elephant orphanage we were told that our reservation had been rejected. It quickly became apparent that Kenya Tours and Safaris had lied from the outset and were not in possession of the tickets we needed to visit the elephant orphanage. Titus advised that we contact the office, who will secure tickets for an alternative day.

The individual I spoke to that afternoon refused to give his name, however the demeanour and behaviours described in many reviewer comments resonate and so I suspect it is the same person. We did not request a refund - we asked for reserved tickets and organised transportation to the elephant sanctuary on an alternative day, along with booking confirmation from the elephant sanctuary so that we did not have a wasted journey. The man I spoke to refused to provide either transportation or written confirmation, insisting that we trust his word. He also suggested that as we had a “private” safari we were not entitled to entry to the elephant orphanage. When we reiterated that we would like entry to the elephant orphanage, transportation and written confirmation (which we felt were reasonable in the circumstances) the representative of Kenya Tours and Safaris responded with accusations of racism. This was unwarranted, shocking and deeply upsetting and we finished the call without a resolution. We have not heard from the company since.

We contacted the elephant sanctuary about the situation directly and they told us that this happens frequently - tour companies will sell tours prior to securing entry to their venue or will oversell an allocation and the elephant sanctuary is left to deal with disappointed clients. They were apologetic but there is nothing that can do about this blatant misrepresentation. They asked me to leave a review and spread the word, hence this detailed account.

I fully expect accusations of poor behaviour or lying from the representative of Kenya Tours and Safaris in response to this review. If you are considering booking a tour, please notice the consistencies across the 1* reviews and take this into careful consideration. As a minimum I would request written confirmation of all of the activities included in the tour prior to making payments to this company.

Titus the driver was great. The manager however was unprofessional and mis-sold the tour. We did not have a booking for the elephant sanctuary- we found this out when we got there and they refused to let us in.
We contacted the manager who refused to tell us his name, refused to refund us anything and said instead he would rebook us for another day- but then he refused to provide any written confirmation of this saying “his word is good enough”. When we said actually it isn’t as it wasn’t on the tour day he launched into a tirade of abuse and called us racists before hanging up on us- this call had multiple witnesses.
DO NOT BOOK WITH THEM. He also cancelled my booking on Get Your Guide before messaging me on WhatsApp asking for direct payment. I paid via pesapal on credit card thankfully (I am in the process of claiming money back) but this should have been a red flag alone.
I have also been in touch with the elephant sanctuary directly who were incredibly kind and helpful. They have also advised:
They have a new online booking system which limits the number and stops companies from abusing the system- BOOK DIRECTLY THROUGH THEM. They also advised that several companies take money from people without checking availability or over book or bring people under different names.

We took this tour as we had a day in Nairobi before our Safari Tour started. We had a great 3 hours in Nairobi National Park (Entrance fee not included). We saw Lionesses with their cubs having just fed on a Zebra, Buffalo and Male and Female Black Rhino so 3 of the Big 5. Lots of other animals our favourite of the antelope were the Thompson Gazelles. Afterwards we saw the Baby Elephants being fed at the David Sheldrick Orphanage and later fed Giraffes at the Giraffe Centre. All in all a super 8 hour tour.

I don't write many bad reviews, but I couldn't not write this one.

I had the time to see Nairobi National Park at short notice. TripAdvisor booking wasn't working, so I called the company and spoke to a member of the family business. He offered that instead of just doing Nairobi National Park my friend and I could also go along to the baby elephants and the Giraffe Centre at no extra cost, since there were other guests already doing this. It was a good price, although we had to pay our own park entry fees at all three locations as well as for a vehicle back to our accommodation after the Giraffe Centre. We accepted.

The Nairobi National Park tour was okay overall. It is unique to see the city skyline behind the animals. We nearly got stuck, but the driver was able to get us out. Speaking of the driver, he wasn't bad, and was happy to answer questions. But he also didn't volunteer information about anything, and had ongoing phone/radio conversations for the whole trip (more than just checking where the animals were). But really, it was fine overall.
The baby elephants were very cute, and we enjoyed the hour there. Another member of the group asked me what I had paid to join, and I told her, not thinking that it would be a problem - I didn't know what she had paid and I had never been told to keep it quiet. However when I checked my phone at the end of our time with the baby elephants there I found a missed call and multiple messages.
They were from the organiser I had booked with, as well as messages he had received from the other guest and then forwarded to me. I'll attach screenshots - hopefully it works. He said I had betrayed him by telling the other guest what price I had paid, and that he was disappointed. I was shocked by this behaviour, and it had a negative influence on what was supposed to be a fun and happy day. I did stand up for myself, as it was not my fault, nor was his behaviour appropriate, but it was still awful. I am glad I missed his call, as it would have been worse to have him yelling at me over the phone.

At 4am the next morning he had the audacity to ask me how it was and when I said his behaviour had messed the tour up, he didn't take the opportunity to apologise, but instead said he was sorry for giving me a discount in the first place.
The cost of the return trip from the Giraffe Centre also increased by 50% from the original agree upon price, without any warning or discussion about this.

Honestly, after this experience I wondered if there was such a thing as good and professional service from safari companies. However the next weekend I was able to do a safari with a different company, and the service was both amazing and professional. If you're considering using Nairobi Safari Tours I'd suggest paying attention to the 1 star reviews - it is worth risking your much anticipated holiday by using this company when there are so many others around? I'll never use them again - even if it was free!

First let me appreciate that you went with us Secondly I can't hide disappointment as the price I gave you was for national park and you knew it well that you paid price for Nairobi national park only And when you requested to be dropped at the baby elephant instead of hotel at the end of tour I told you since our van was going there and later to giraffe you can join at no extra cost Only thing you was to pay was admission fees Which was favour we did to you to enjoy full day tour at a cost of national Park When you knew well the other guest was doing full day tour the price was not the same You should have put disclaimer that you paid for park only But gave you services for full day tour You breached clients confidentiality by disclosing your price The cost for dropping didn't increase but we agreed to share the Cost I leave for the public to judge if we did right or not to extend your tour for the half price Am left with no words but to say I wish I knew I could have gave you what you paid for without Giving you more at no extra cost Thanks though you gave us chance to serve you and also telling the world we can go an extra mile at no cost
