Dan was our tour guide and we had a fantastic time. Dan is very knowledgeable about Hawaiian history, culture, volcanoes, and plant and animal life. He made the tour a rich experience by sharing this information along the route and at each stop. He gave clear directions at the stops and made it easy for us to spend time at each one. He also allowed us to experience some local sweet treats and some locally grown fruit. We would highly recommend this 5 hour tour to anyone wanting to experience the volcano, big island, or Hawaii in general.

Alex was amazing!!! Prices just about half of what the cruise ship was charging. He was extremely flexible and easy going. He asked the group the places we wanted to go and didn’t. He was knowledgeable, funny, and just an over all pleasant person to be with! He took pictures for everyone. His driving was top notch. We went to the Japanese garden, waterfall, volcano, lava tunnel, market, coffee and treat shop, the market and the black sand beach. We did more than the tours offered on the ship, we were able to move quickly and see more in our smaller group of 10, and he still got us back in plenty of time to board the ship…. And at half the cost!!! Complete no brainer. If you’re looking for the best tour experience on the island of Hawaii, call Alex!!! 808-315-4212

Kimo our guide was genuinely friendly and very informative. We stopped at several places and he took time to explain what we were viewing, answered all of our questions and showed us a really good time. I almost feel like a local now. Others on our trip enjoyed the tour so much they ensured they used the same tour group in Kona. We already have adventures scheduled or would’ve done the same.
It was super easy to find them if you are disembarking a cruise in Hilo. They even called me to ensure I was making my way off the ship and where to find them. Absolutely seamless day.

We had an incredible tour, and Dan, our driver and guide, truly made it unforgettable.
He was very knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating. He not only made the tour engaging and enjoyable but also went above and beyond by providing valuable tips and recommendations for the rest of our stay. Highly recommend!

Our guide Kimo was five stars! Highly recommended option as opposed to the crowded cruise ship tours. Kimo took his time, shared the local history and was extremely accommodating.

Dan was the guide for my sister and myself and he was amazing. Obviously he’s very friendly and knowledgeable about your island and he also shared his personal experiences concerning the areas we visited especially relating to past eruptions of the volcanos. He was very tolerant of my incessant questions and never made me feel as if he was just doing his job. He was very enthusiastic in sharing about your culture and his life. He seems like the kind of person I would like to sit down with, have a meal of good Hawaiian food, a Kona beer and get to know better. If I knew of anyone traveling to your town I would recommend your company and have them ask for Dan as their guide. Aloha and mahalo!

We had a very relaxing and informative tour with Kimo. He was very flexible which helped us a bunch since my wife is disabled. If we come back or if you’re looking for a tour, we definitely highly recommend Kimo with Malahini Tours.

Be very aware the trip advisor price was $178 dollars per couple more than buying trip on key side. Trip advisor refused a refund hiding behind terms and conditions. Be aware. The tour itself was brilliant and alone would deserve 5 Stars

We always like to use local companies when we travel especially during cruises. Met Dan at the dock and the rest of our day on Hilo was completely amazing. He was a wealth of information and being from here you could tell his heart was authentic to share his home with us. He was able to accommodate our request to see the local market so we could buy some fruit and get some fresh coconut milk. Amazing day, thanks Dan for making our first trip to Hilo a memory maker!!! We will be back for sure.

Daniel (our guide) was extremely knowledgeable and pointed out details every step of the way. I was blown away as to the extent of his knowledge. He knew the perfect viewing angles for each and every site we visited. I would highly recommend this tour if Daniel was the guide.

Yes, if you select the Port of Hilo as your pickup location you will be picked up from the Cruise port in terminal 1 at the prearranged pickup area located across the restrooms.

My husband uses a walker and needs mostly paved or hard-packed dirt trails to walk. I notice this tour doesn't stop long at each place. Does that mean that it's mostly a driving tour and if we depart the bus, the walking is minimal?

Our cruise ship is not due in until 9:30 on 18th September, which puts this tour out of the equation, unless the timing is more flexible for passengers.

Just a heads up when you decide to head to Hawaii, give us a call in advance. We can accommodate flexibility as we do a lot of work with cruise ship passengers and know the ship porting schedules ahead of time. We also provided tours on a smaller group scale so we can accommodate stop times.
