A very historical temple built during 8th century. Since, the temple has been expanded and rebuilt over time, the architecture of temple appears to be mixture of many kingdoms.
We attended early morning pooja, which was very nice.
Maintenance work was in progress in some areas.

This temple is between sand dunes and the central point in Talacud. This is similar to the Belur temples albeit nowhere close to them in terms of scale. There is worship in this temple. Photography is allowed outside the sanctum and offers some good sculpting samples. It is maintained well. There is a slipper stand outside. One could just leave the footwear here and complete all the temples without footwear since the remainder of the walk is entirely over soft sand. There is ample parking space outside. The pushkarani outside is closed to public and is well maintained.

Vaidyanatheswara Temple complex houses the main temple dedicated to Lord Vaidyanatheswara and other temples within the complex. The temple is in use by the Pilgrim and also popular among the tourists. The temple is located adjacent to Vehicle Parking Area. The temples in the complex are built in typical South Indian styles and the main attraction of the temple is the chain carved out of stone, which is suspended from the ceiling on the outer side,

Sri Vaidyanatheshwara temple is the largest of the four Linga temples we visited. The place is very serene and quite. We can see that the Nandhi is mounted on a height atop of a mandapa facing the gopuram of the temple. The temple has some good sculptures - prominently the stone rings hanging in one corner of the temple.

Temple is very beautiful. The carvings are elegant. Some of the interesting features are outer walls, Dwarpalaks, Five headed snakes close to Stone Chains etc. A must visit place if you like old architecture and are nearby.

Tips:- Do research on the google before you go. No need to hire a local guide. Wear sandals as there are 5 Shiva Temples nearby and a Keerthinarayan Temple. Make sure you cover your head during summers or during afternoons in general.

This is the main temple and one of the panchalinga temples. It has Amazing architecture and great history associated with it. Its really a wonder that during 11th to 14th century such a amazing construction was done. Panchalinga's refers to Vaidyanatheshwara,Pathaleshwara, Maruleshwara, Mallikarjuna and Arkeshwara. First 3 are in the same place and later two are within 10km. All 5 are having a history related to Ganga-Chola dynasty.
You will also see a Chowdeshwari and Veerabhadra temple along with above.

One more interesting temple by Hoysala dynasty is Keerthinarayana temple. Main temple was reconstructed using the materials found during excavation. But the mahadwara remains intact.

Strongly suggest to take the guide service to get to know about the place rather than just roaming. Spending 200INR is fine to get to know about the place. Visited in March 2017

If you are going by a bike and need a decent trip you can follow the below
Bangalore --> Shivanasamudra --> Talakadu --> Cauvery river --> Somanathapura --> back to bangalore (will sum-up to around 350km)

Among the temples of Talakadu, the five Lingams believed to represent the five faces of Shiva. Vaidyanatheshwara is one among them. The other four namely are the Pathaleshwara, Maruleshwara, Arkeshwara and Mallikarjuna temple. Traditionally the pilgrims should first bathe in the Gokarna theertham, worship Gokarneswara and Chowdeswari, and then worship Vaidyanatheshwara on the new moon day in the month of Karthika, when the two stars of Khuha Yoga and Vishaka conjoin. We along with family and friends visited the temple on 18th December, 2016.

This is undoubtedly the star of the Talakad show. It's located before the sand dunees so access is easy and is well worth looking at - highly decotrated with every surface carved.
