The place is in the middle of nowhere and is accessible by bus. Entrance into the cave consists of walking down at least 400 steps. We then boarded 12 person capacity boats went about 1 mile on the river in the cave. The walls were lit in various colors and there were a number of waterfalls. Exiting the cave, we passed numerous vats that we were told contained rice wine being fermented. Overall, a nice trip but I wish we stayed at the nearby town rather than riding a tr and bus for over 10 hours.

I visited here has part of a school trip - the staff and students loved it. The cave lighting in delightfully tacky but the natural beauty of the caves could still been seen. There are many steps down into the cave and within the cave, take it slow and steady, enjoy the beauty.
A cheesy photo opportunity is available at the reflection pools. Get your photo taken and collect a key tag for your free gift at the end. If you are with a group, get more than one photo taken. They only print on key tag per photo taken.
The boat ride at the end is fun, but you'll need a translator, no one speaks English.

This is one of the stops in north Guangdong during the 3-day self-drive trip I took my 70-year old parents to.
It is only 30 min drive from Lianzhou town centre, on a good conditioned and well signposted road, although the last 3-4km was a bit winding once we turned off the main road.
It is listed as a 5A tourist site (highest level in the Chinese authority's ranking system ) in terms of its uniqueness and significance. The site didn't let us down right from the time we entered the parking site, which was very well managed. From the parking lot it was a short walk to the ticket office. Stand-alone ticket for full admission is RMB 150. Combined ticket for this site and Huangchuan Gorges is also available but I can't remember for how much.
We then walked down to the entrance of the cave, which was a wow. From there, we desceneded to where the guided tour started as you continued to admire the view. The guided tour is included in the ticket in Mandarin Chinese in a group of 20 tourists. The tour lasted for 1hr 15min or so, with the guide stopping at various places to highlight more and more unusual shapes and scale of the colourful calcites. At one point, there was a photo spot where staff will take a photo of you/your group, and a tiny print will be made into a key ring which you can pick up at the exit. This is free, but the printing quality is poor. However, you can opt for the RMB15 normal size photo which seems quite good quality.
The second part of the guided tour was the 10 min or so boat ride along the underground river, which was another surreal experience as if you were travelling the time tunnel of billions of years when these calcite came to formation. It was not dangerous at all and the guide repeatedly reminded the visitors when the boat approached narrow gaps.
Once we got off the boat, there was a short walk past some locally produced spirit display. Then it was a short ascend to the exit of the cave, where a shaded area with benches were provided for rest. After this, be prepare to climb some 360 steps up to the exit of the site (where the ticket office is). It wasn't long but my folks stopped half way at a food stall for a bowl of jellied toufu before finishing off the remaining steps. It helped to break down the somewhere strengnuous climb.
Two things stood out for me about this place: it's spectacular, and it's also well managed. It's a one-way system and the guided tour worked well for the purpose of crowd control. The stops along the tour made it much more manageable even for the elderly (nothing overly steep anyways) and my folks didn't complain about it at all. There are bathrooms at the entrance of the site and of the cave as well as the exit of the cave (the rest area).
One thing I wish for improvement was maybe to increase more info about how these natural wonders have come into being. The guided tour touched upon it slightly but focused on the shapes of the calcite and how they assemble some historical figues and the legends around them - all imaginary. It's a shame that this place is not presented in a way that caters more for visitor interested in the science/nature side of it, and not used as a way to stir up curiosities about geology for kids and adults alike. (This is normal though in China)
Word of cautions: we went there on a working day, so the visitor number was low - they even swtiched off the lights in some areas because there was no visitors during lunch time. I reckon this was a key contributor to make it such an enjoyable experience overall. We saw the areas designed for queues in the cave for the guided tour and the boat ride, and could only warn agains coming here on any major holiday breaks/seasons!
Also, check the weather if you go in the summer rainy season. We were told that in July/August, they closed for two days due to the rising river from the typhoon rainfall.

The underground river is located at the bottom of a huge cave. The cave is decorated with colorful lights. One starts from the top of the hill and walks down a long path to the river at the bottom. The path is quite fascinating. The boat ride takes about 10-15 minutes. Do not go there during the long public holidays of China eg May 1, Oct. 1 else you will regret, as there will be a very, very long queue for the boat ride. One exits from the bottom of the cave and then has to go up the hill, back to the car-park near the entrance of the cave.

Amazing rock formations that lead your imagination runs wild. Incredible to know that this was once a sea floor. Blown away by nature's work of art. The 1500 meter boat journey was worth the long journey from Guangzhou. Best to book a tour as getting here is tricky...

Your trip begins with normal sailing in the lake then it gets a unique twist and your remaining journey continues under ground in the caves. The ride goes on for around 1.5 km.
This underground scenic spot is in the in Zhejiang province. It is located 6km away from Lanxi.Convenient transportation is available.Once you get out of the boat there are about 500 steps to climb.
very beautiful and inside temperature is very cold. Local told us that the temperature inside these Karst caves is always constant. it is 18deg all year round.Inside the caves there are life like structures hanging naturally.

Ticket price is 75 Yuan for boat fares and admission to caves.

I was working in Lianzhou and my hosts took me to the caves after work one day. It had been very hot so it was lovely to get up into the mountains and into the cool caves. The boat trip was stunning and we almost had the place to ourselves. Beautiful and very natural attraction
