Fanjing Mountain is just as its name suggests—a peaceful and pure place. The environment here is super well-protected, with beautiful, untouched nature all around. The mountain is steep and often covered in mist, making it look like a floating paradise in the clouds. I took the cable car up the mountain and visited some really cool spots like Mushroom Rock, Old Golden Summit, and Cheng'en Temple. It was such a unique experience, not just because of the stunning views but also because I got to learn about Chinese Taoism, which I hadn’t known much about before. This trip really opened my eyes to the beauty of nature and gave me a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese culture. If you're looking for a mix of adventure and serenity, this place is definitely worth a visit!

Fascinating and exotic you reach first by minibus (strictly electric) then by gondola. At the foot of the last route a stop given that the number of people who can climb is limited, as the space available for "climbing" is limited. According to the number printed on the ticket, my time to board came after an hour. There is a rising and falling path so as to avoid slowing down. The organization is impeccable and the number of people who can access the two small Buddhist temples that are located on the top of the mountain (2400m) is very high.
Unfortunately the day of my visit to the mountain was almost always cloudy so that little panoramic I brought with me

My journey to Fanjing Mountain, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Guizhou, was a blend of nature and spirituality. Ascending its 2,494 meters, the highest peak of the Wuling Mountains, I was enveloped in lush greenery and fresh air. The sight of the rare Guizhou golden monkey was a highlight, as was the challenging hike to the Red Clouds Golden Summit. The ancient temples there offered tranquility amidst the clouds. Witnessing the mystical 'Buddha’s Light' was a spiritual experience, adding to the mountain's sacred aura. Fanjing Mountain is not just a natural wonder; it's a journey into spiritual connection and inner peace.

A beautiful and scenic location. We entered by the west gate and because of its higher level of difficulty with many steps and continous ups and downs in the terrain, we were almost on our own with nature and the scenery all to ourselves. This was so worth the experience. Upon arriving at the base of Mt Fanjing we met the crowds. The ascent was very steep and required a good level of fitness and appropriate hiking shoes. Similiarly the descent. The exit by the east gate was helped by 3 levels of very steep escalators, which were covered, and therefore there was no view to be seen. Most groups will enter and leave by the east gate as it is closer and easier with the escalators, however it loses out on the scenery. The entire experience requires at least 5 - 6 hours, if you enter in by the west gate, shorter if entering and leaving by the east gate. The temples at the top of Mt Fanjing have been there for almost 1000 years and it an amazing feat how these were built.

There is a long cable car to the halfway point, and you don't see the mountain until quite a way up the cable. When you eventually see it, it is an amazing sight. The climb from the cable car to the base is strenuous & although I resolved not to, this 80 y.o. did finally make it up!! There is a further climb up the mountain, but the view from the initial climb was sufficient for me to gauge the magnificence of Mount Fanjing.

It's a staggering scenario, by all means worthwhile, but you are in a country with 1.6 billion people, so be prepared for the crowds, for line-ups, for smart ar5es trying to short cut the lines and for a lot of throat-clearing around you. But, above all, be early. Try to be there at the opening time, and you will beat the crowds. Or else, you will line up to get the bus that will take you to the ropeway. You will line up at the ropeway, you will line up at the entrance to the main attraction peak, you will line up at the climb to the peak, line up again for the ropeway down and line up again for the bus back to the park gate. This could amount to 2-3-4 hours just standing in a crowd. Moreover, once you get out of the ropeway, try to avoid the climb to Mushroom Rock and go directly to the temple by the base of the main peak (but I don't know whether you can go in that direction). The problem is that the climb to Mushroom Rock is exhausting enough and, getting there, you realise you're far away from the main attraction and you have to take the stairs down to the temple at the base. I'd certainly take the direct road, if possible. Once at the temple, book your entry to the climb by reading the wechat code. Maybe that can be done at the park entrance or at the time of booking, but they don't tell us. The wait for your turn could be agonisingly long and you'd be climbing late afternoon. So please be early. And finally, on the very narrow and steep climb to the peak, there will be smart arses trying to cut short by pushing through the crowd. Please shame them bluntly and do not allow them to take a place ahead of you and the people behind you. Sand them back to the end where they came from. You will become a hero.

I arrived to tongren Airport at 3:30pm, took a bus to downtown bus station and then took a another bus to Jiangkou which is the closest town to Fanjing Mountain, and then I took a bus from Jiangkou at5:30pm to the bottom of the mountain where they have many hotels and restaurants, right beside the entrance.
I'm not sure when does the mountain open but I went to the tourist center at 8am and bought a ticket for 120RMB, including the sightseeing bus which takes you to the cable car place and hiking trails.
I wanted to take the hiking trails but I couldn't find the place where to start so I ended up buying a one way cable car ticket which took about 10mins to get to the top.
It took me about 3h to go around the whole mountain, it was really amazing. the landscapes, the scenery were breathtaking.
On the way back, I took the hiking trails which took me 1h30mins to the sightseeing bus place but without any breaks.
I'd recommend taking the cable car up since there are many places at the top of the mountain that needs hiking and would too tired to see all if I took the hiking path up. but I like the way back, it was cool, just forest though, no landscapes or anything, but it was cool to breath all that clean air in and listen to the pure sound of nature.

I have visited this mountain on a number of occasions. It's a great introduction for friends who come to stay at our home in nearby Tongren city.
On cloudy days you should not be deterred from doing the trip either. It sometimes makes for incredible photos as the peaks appear amidst the mist. From the highest peak you can look down on the lower one. Really fascinating and provides excellent photo opportunities.
Like most places in China, there are a variety of food and drink stalls along the way. No need to bring anything yourself.
Cable car access can be a little crowded during summer holidays, but you come to accept that in China. Go early in the day if that's any problem.

How long is the bus ride from tongren to the park? We are arriving to the train station. Is the bus from there?
Rédigé le 22 juillet 2019
Buses are going from the Tourism passenger transport terminal, which is just around the corner from the Train station. There are three buses on schedule from Tongren to Fanjingshan: 7:30, 8:30 and 14:50, 32 RMB is a single ticket.
Journey time is around 1 hour and 40 minutes, and don’t forget about the last bus back to Tongren, which is at 6 pm.

Hi, I am planning to hike fanjing mountain on 18/10/19. Where is the convenient places that i should stay?
Rédigé le 15 juillet 2019
There nearest town is Jiangkou, where there is good accomodation of every level and a regular bus service to the mountain gate starting from 6 am and taking about 30 min.We stayed at accomodation near the mountain entrance. There is plenty of new hotels there and a few restaurants, so it is very convenient for an early start, which is best because of the busy and crowded access to the cable car and summits. We took the fast train to Tongren and then a bus from the tourist bus station 200 yds away in front of the fast train station that went directly to Fanjingshan. The scenery at the base of the mountain is beautiful, quiet and rural, and the accomodation good but basic. Plenty to choose from.

Accommodation in Tongren convenient for travel to Mt Fanjing?
I'll be arriving there on October 14th.
Any other good places to visit?
Rédigé le 1 octobre 2016
You can stay in Tongren and take a bus to Fanjing mount, it’ll take around 1 hour and 40 minutes to get there.
You would also like to visit the Southern Chinese Great Wall and Fenghuang ancient city, which are also reachable by bus.
