This is a great, relatively easy multi-day hike. I thought it would be a good one for multi-day hike beginners but I did read another review saying the opposite so I guess each to their own. We did it over 5 days but could have easily done it in a shorter period of time - we only did about three hours of hiking on each day. Doing it over the five days meant we could relax and explore more. Our side trips included Nina Peak, Agnes Island (we almost managed to walk the whole way across to it at low tide) and part-way to Sunken Bay Reef. I say part-way because the path goes straight through a deep, murky creek - perfect for crocodiles. We decided not to risk it. One of the locals later confirmed it wasn't safe and advised that it was best to continue bush bashing down the side of the creek to the bay. We camped at Nina Bay, Banksia Bay, Zoe Bay and Mulligans Falls. It's not worth camping at George Point. It doesn't take long to walk there from Mulligans and you can safely cross the creek at low or half tide. Nina Peak and the waterfalls were definitely the main highlight. They were just stunning to swim in. The worst part was dealing with all the mozzies and sandflies. You literally have to bathe in repellant to keep them away. We got about 200 bites on us. Despite this it was a great trip. If I went back I would throw in an extra day to climb Mount Bowen and maybe explore Mount Straloch at the end.

We walked the Thorsborne Trail as a family (which children aged 13 and 11) taking 3 nights. It was a fantastic experience and just a beautiful place. Swimming in Mulligan Falls with large freshwater fish was definitely a highlight as was swimming in the rock pools above Zoe falls.

Overall we found the trail challenging, and probably not recommended as a beginner's walk. This was mostly due to the warm weather but also the terrain is steep and rocky in places. You definitely need to come prepared with good hiking shoes or boots. We debated whether to bring sleeping bags but glad we did as the nights were cool.

One thing I wish we had planned properly was timing of our boat departure at the end of the walk. The final section of the walk is along the beach at Mulligan Bay and there is a place where you need to cross a river mouth by wading through the water. This is best done at low tide but we ended up crossing in chest deep water at high tide as we needed to reach George Point to meet the boat.

This walk is definitely doable with children and made for a great family holiday.

We had to tick this hike off our bucket list, and it certainly didn't disappoint.
Wonderful ever changing scenery, swimming holes were spectacular, beaches beautiful and the Trail was challenging in areas.
But it was well worth it, loved this hike!!

Hi I thought I would write a review about the trail as there was very little info on the internet. We have just completed it, my partner and I. It was spectacular. I would recommend 4 nights, from north to south. We went with Hinchinbrook Island Cruises as they have the license to drop you at the top and pick you up at the bottom (apparently others will get license, but was best option at time). Take your own tent, food water bladder etc. 2lt bladder was enough as there was enough water on the island along the creeks to refill. I would recommend day 1- drop off, walk to Nina peak for morning snack, lunch at Nina bay and night 1 at Little Ramsey Bay. Night 2 and 3 Zoe Bay, def need a day to relax there- stunning waterfall and swimming hole, also climb up path about 30 mins further up and more beautiful swimming holes with spectacular views. just beautiful. Night 4 - Mulligans Falls. Also amazing swimming hole. Done bother staying at George point, ugly and only 2 hours walk from Mulligans,- can only walk on the low tide (prob because of possible crocs at higher tide. Lovely walk, worth doing. Take mozzie spray with, and keep food in rat boxes provided, the critters are everywhere at night.

Hinchinbrook Island must rate as one of the more special destinations in Australia, especially when visited by sea kayak. Coral Sea Kayaking provides a 7-day experience from Lucinda to Hinchinbrook Island, Goold Island, the Family Islands and Dunk Island. Participants paddle stable, seaworthy double kayaks that enable an intimate experience of the Islands and the surrounding waters. Everything that is needed for the week goes in those kayaks - except some locally-won water and fresh fish.
Dave and Michelle were our expert guides and gourmet chefs. Their knowledge of the area's history, fauna and flora was extensive. Nothing was ever too much trouble and they were excellent company. And the food... I still can't believe it is possible to produce restaurant-standard meals in the middle of nowhere, but the proof of the pudding is in the eating as the saying goes, and it was well and truly proven!
We had great weather for the whole week. We paddled with whales, dugongs and turtles. The cameras got a workout snapping pristine beaches, rocky headlands and spectacular mountain vistas. We never shared a campsite, encountered a very few hikers at some lunch spots, and saw the occasional boat in the distance - we pretty much had the place to ourselves!
Thank you, Coral Sea Kayaking, for facilitating a tremendous life experience and thoroughly relaxing holiday!
