During our recent visit to Kashmir we were supposed to take a day trip from Srinagar to Gulmarg. However, the Gondola there was closed for maintenance and hence we decided to visit Doodhpatri. First of all the drive there is not pleasant. It is only 45 kilometers away but takes two hours due to bad roads. Once you get there you have the option of going on an ATV ride or a horse ride. If you don’t want to do either, there is nothing else to do there. You will be swamped by vendors trying to get you to hire them for the rides or take your photographs. The area appears very touristy and the natural beauty of the area takes a back seat . Even if you decide to take the horse or ATV ride, there is not much to see there for all the effort except a small stream. After a long journey to get to Srinagar, this trip sapped all our energy and enthusiasm for Kashmir. We were left wishing we should have just stayed back in Srinagar and enjoyed the hotel.

River stream under your feet, lush green garden, well furnished hutments (if you intend to stay there), villagers' hut view from inside are some of the exciting and memorable points not to miss. Get ready to hire horse, local taxi or golf carts at union controlled rates as the tourist cars are not allowed inside ( distance is 1.5 km one way) - a winding road to the valley. Do not miss to stop at dhabas on the way back for hot Kahwa or tasty Makke di roti and saag, prepared on the spot at very reasonable rates.

We visited with family in the month of june this year, Awesome place, heaven on earth is what it is, clean and mesmerising serene, amazing experience one could ever have, we took the horse ride, guides (Ajaz and ashraf) were really good and helpful with our 5yr old boy, showed us every point.. worth a visit..

Doodhpatri waterfall point is the main attraction in the Doodhpatri region. It's not a waterfall per say, but river Shaliganga flows through rocks and seems like milk, hence the name doodhpatri. By default,one has to park a car or bus in the parking lot (Doodhpatri park). All the things are governed by locals. They normally don't allow vehicles to pass through as they want tourists to use their horses/ponies or cabs. It's less than 2km walk from parking to the actual Doodhpatri Shaliganga river view point. It takes about 45 min of walking. Pony/horse ride prices range from 500 to 1500, depending on how much you bargain. If you don't show any interest at all, they also let you know way ride or small distance pony rides in 100 rupees. It feels like Switzerland or any other developed country hill station full of trees, valleys, rivers, small waterstreams, mountains laden with snow, etc.

Naturally beautiful place where water is pure like source and good experience. Also the path contains local rottis made live and are very nice veg food. However, the path contains obstacles from Horse riders blocking your vehicle and forcing you to go in horse only. As a general position, in full Srinagar and around tourist places, police is fully absent, due to which cab drivers and local horse riders, sledge and 3 wheeler vehicle service providers are looting people with their fancy charges.

Desecrated by tourists and Ponywallahs. Vehicles go to the end - upto Shaliganga. Insist upon your taxi operator or else he can connive with ponywallah to get you to pay hefty amount. We had to walk the entire length only because we had no idea if the vehicles go to the last point. The first meadow at the pony point is the only place worth watching. Otherwise there is only hype of other places upto Shaaliganga.

Experience the beauty of Kashmir without the hype and crowds of Pahalgam. You can drive to the car park, and then either walk or ride ponies to the Doodh pathri stream. Its a beautiful setting along the way and at the stream.

Doodhpathi or the valley of milk, is a beautiful lush verdant about 42 kms from Srinagar at an altitude of 2730m above the sea level in south-west of Kashmir valley. Having remained in oblivion for centuries and known to shepherds and trekkers only, this valley is a recent discovery in the tourist map of Kashmir.

Vast green medows with mountains(pirpanjal range)in one side and milky shaliganga river flowing over big big stones sorronded with alpine forest,is awsome experience.Moreover it's weather now a days is very very comfortable.You can enjoy pony ride around the medows in a very very minimum rate of ₹200/-pp only.

The place doesn't have much shops. Maybe some distance from doodhpatri there might be a place, I am not sure.
