An amazing sight. Definitely worth the trip from Kutaisi. A very serene place. No stores or anything nearby so make sure you take water if you are walking from the main road to the pillar.
The only negative for me was there was no one who could explain the history is English.
You can get there by taking a mini bus from Kutaisi (GEL 10) and getting off at Katskhi.

Amazing natural rock formation and a monastery perched on top. When I first saw the photo I was curious which led me to travel to Georgia along with looking another photo of the Gergeti Church. These are simply marvelous and wonders of human resilience of building something perilously at a dangerous place. Climbing up is not possible, it is for monks who wants solitude and meditation. There is a small museum and a small souvenir shop at the base. The energy in this place is clean and spiritual.

There is not so much to see here, it is a monastery and holy place with no access up to the top of the cliff. That said it is a place like nowhere else and you will probably never find the like anywhere else. Fantastic what nature can make.

Algo raro e remoto!

We have seen pictures online and read about this place.
And finally we got here. We had a rental car from Kutaisi and drove here ourselves. Not an easy ride with a bad car but a very interesting drive. The way ‘down’ from the pillal was needing to speed up on the car to get over the small hill, exciting, not for novice drivers.
We were all alone, as out of tourist season. We know it is “just” a small building on a pillar but still felt very special coming here.
It took us a good 4h, drive back and forth and the visit.
At the foot of the pillar is a small chapel where we lit candles for our recent past family members. The lighter is in the drawer by the altar... Candle in the small and very friendly shop.
It was just (early Jan) under renovation and seems they are making a few more buildings, the existing buildings are old and pretty so guess it will be a bit more touristic later on.

You can get there on public transport but we had to hitch back. The 1k walk in was no problem, though the steps at the end were tiring. Not much to see up close.

So I hitchhiked from Tblisi to Chiatura and stayed at the end of the town and went to see the pillar next day. From far it really looked marvelous and when I get there I asked the person in charge if I could go high up, but he said no, and a gardener next to him asked where I was coming from, I should say that they didn't speak English easily. After I said where I was from he came to talk to me and he was a kind guy saying that he was in Iran before, it felt nice and safe. Also I should say that before going up there it was so hot and I was frustrated of hiking with a backpack, so I trusted a couple down the road of pillar who sold popcorns and put the backpack with them, which when I got back was intact. It feels nice that Georgian people are kind and trustworthy. So I enjoyed the view of pillar and when I got back and read about it I found out that noone is allowed upstairs.
I wish someone could speak English there to tell me more about it.

We are planning to go there late September. I work for a Travel TV Show in Brazil. Do you know if we can climb up there?

I don't think is possible? The monk will not let people up there. A danish tv-show tried, but the didn't make it.
