We were in St Lucia on a port stop on a cruise. Having seen mixed stories about this beach we thought we would give it a go. We walked from the cruise port which took 40 mins and was easy. There was nothing at all on the beach though, there was a thin strip of sand…too thin to lie a towel on really, and lots of leaves and debris from the palm trees…and I mean a lot! Reading travel articles we thought there would be a bar - but there wasn’t, there was literally nothing. There were a couple of couples strolling from the Sandals result but that was it.

From there we moved onto vigie beach. Having read mixed reviews on that beach we were a bit reluctant to go there but it was lovely and we wish we had gone there from the start.

We recently stayed at the all inclusive St.James Club. We highly recommend staying a week to enjoy the pools, beautiful beach, natural romantic settings on this beautiful island St. Lucia. We loved our dinners at Morgan's Pier. The oceanview rooms here provide spectacular views of the water and sunsets. St. James Club beach has many non motorized watersport activities like hobie cat, kayak, paddleboards etc. Each evening there was nightly entertainment.
A must excursion to be planned onsite is with Joy Tours, a full day cruise south with a variety of stops which include mud baths, waterfalls, snorkeling, beach with phenomenal views of the Pitons.

My friend and I enjoyed a wonderful 10 day stay. I would absolutely recommend this resort to anyone looking for a good time and a comfortable stay. Not only are the staff friendly but helpful and polite. Joy's cruises is a must do, go see JJ on the beach by the almond tree.

Stayed at St James in Choc Bay- I would highly recommend the resort and the area. It is very near to Castries which is a great little town for shopping and souvenirs

We did a lot of research before coming to St Lucia and read lots about how great choc beach was, apparently it’s lively & has a great restaurant etc however when we asked the taxi driver to take us, they refused, saying it’s not a good beach, no facilities, no security... he drove us to it to show that there’s nothing happening there now, the restaurant is closed & so the atmosphere is no longer, there’s a 5* hotel on one end & they’ve got a designated area & they’re own security. But nothing else there. The travel book we used also raved about this beach but is clearly out of date.

On the beach of this hotel is a cruise available. They take you to the mud baths of the volcano. Then you go to a waterfall to get washed off and a cool dip. Lunch is served in the rainforest at Joy’s house. His wife and daughter serve an authentic Caribbean lunch that was delish. Then off to Sugar beach for snorkeling and to see the Piton Mountains. On the sail back the rum punch emerged and the dancing started. What a hoot. Captain Raymond was so sweet and the gents on board really know how to entertain. Vaughan and Johnny made sure everyone had fun but most of all made sure we were so safe. Thank you to all. This cruise is a perfect way to spent a beautiful day in St Lucia.
It was actually so amazing, I cried.

Choc is a great beach to walk by, rest, or swim. Rat Island is just off shore and easily reachable by kayak or even swimming, and it is a fun trip from the beach. You can land on the island, hike to the old house, and paddle all around it. It made for a really enjoyable afternoon.
Although Choc is close to Castries, it is hard to reach. I recommend investigating if you can rent chairs and other equipment from the resorts. I was able to a find a daily spot at Villa Beach, but I suspect that it is going to be much harder over the weekends. You can also head for the public beach. The public section does have parking but the parking lot is hard to find. You can even park on the side of the highway (really! Lucians do) and then explore by foot where the best entrance and parking spot is. Or, at the bent in the north just before reaching the roundabout, you can park on the side of the road, and then back in into a pathway where you can leave your the car. I have not seen restaurants on the beach, but you can walk to the Gablewoods Mall (cross the road on the pedestrian crossing), and eat local food like a Lucian (roti or a fish meal with beans, rice, fig salad, etc).

While on a Southern Caribbean cruise, the port of Castries, St. Lucia was our 3rd stop. Did not want to be with the crowds since there were 5 ships in port. So, we investigated other not so known beaches and decided to give Choc Beach a try. What a delight! Not many people there, but not deserted either. Beach connects to resort, so it is pretty safe. Water was calm that day, beach clean. There are no chairs but you can walk to the left once on the beach and will find a small restaurant with facilities. Only need to bring towels, drink and sandwiches from ship to have a day of tranquility. Easy to get to, can be seen from ship, for those that can walk, will take about a half hour. We took public bus, .75 cents each way, bus number 1A. Bus stop two blocks from port, just make left once outside, go through local market, make left at light, bus stop on right. Local people on bus, friendly enough, helpful when asked which stop to get off, will let you off at end of airport runway, short walk from there to beach. Bus runs continually every few minutes back to ship, never more than two or three seats available, so a group may have to split up and meet at beach or back on ship. Highly recommend.
