This fine cathedral provides a wealth of architecture, urban planning, connection to earlier history, and peace that is unique to the rich collection of buildings in Silay City.
The church's layout , by Italian architect Lucio Bernasconi, is in the shape of a Latin cross, with a cupola rising forty meters above the nave. Construction was completed in 1927. The new church was inaugurated that same year. Lucio Bernasconi was also responsible for the design and construction of the Silay Wharf, which was razed by Imperial Japanese soldiers during the Second World War.
The church has a wonderful relation to the public plaza, and full of bold architectural moves and details. The soaring spaces inside provide a perfect haven for peace and connection. If I lived in Silay City, I would probably visit this place of worship more than once a week just to absorb the many riches it has to offer.

This is the first pro-cathedral in negros island and it is noted by its perfect dome which is very magnificent. If the photographer is good and will take a picture from the vantage point of the fountain area, you can take a picture that this will appear like the Taj Majal.

This is the center of Catholic faith in Silay. It is also one of the evidences that Silay is among the Visayas islands that were colonized by the Spaniards. The building of this cathedral is financed by well off Spanish descendants in Negros.

This place of worship is one of the first structures one notices along the National Highway from Bacolod City and on to Victoria City.
It is across the Olympia Public Plaza, where locals relax under the cool shades of a lot of full-grown trees.
The church has a vintage altar with old religious images. At the back, one can find the ruins of the previous church - now used as the Adoration Chapel.
It is also the place where one can begin the heritage walk to some 32 ancestral homes, where one can chat with the local occupants about the history of the city, the sugar baron landlords and their amazingly fabulous lives during the sugar industry boom.

If you're into visiting churches, San Diego Cathedral will definitely stand out! It's got so much character, color, and of course history.Accessible to public transport, and if you bring your own car, parking is available inside on ordinary Sunday.Very beautiful and peaceful place glad to see it and experience it as part of the old city and a world heritage

It's not that big but I appreciate the solemnity inside. I felt the presence of the Holy Spirit while praying here. I also love the interiors and architecture. This church also stood the test of time so it's an interesting one.

San Diego Pro-Cathedral has been around for centuries. But the real secret lies behind the church where the ruins of the original structure is located. A prayer room was built in the site of the ruins.

This church was declared as a pro-cathedral in 1994.
This church is unique in Negros Occidental for being the only church in the province featuring a cupola or dome.
We dropped this church by briefy when visiting the ancestral homes in the area. I popped my head inside the church for a viewing. There were some praying. The interior is also very impressive.
