This is a great foothill mountain in front of the Rockies that appeared to be an amazing morning hike for great views of the mountains. Unfortunately, our expectations were thwarted by a thick fog. We did get to see Deer Mountain the day before from Many Parks Curve while visiting the ridges and tundra. However, our hike was a soupy, gray experience. With that said the hike was nice and the forest and meadows were great. I simply missed the view I could still picture. We did not not make the summit as the effort seemed to provide less reward as we climbed. I would like to come back and hike on a clear day.

this is one of my favorite RNMP hikes. Starts out with a nice incline going through a big meadow which always seems to have deer/elk hanging around. Once you get into the forest, the trail gets steeper but with good number of switchbacks to keep it manageable. The last 1/4 mile gets pretty steep and challenging in the snow but knowing you are close to the top gets the adrenaline flowing. views from the top of the divide, morraine park and the fall creek area are amazing. plan for 4-5 hours round trip with hour at the top.

Even kids can reach the summit of Deer Mountain. It is 3 miles to the summit and up about 900 feet. There are 16 switchbacks in the middle part of the hike and lots of stone steps near the top. But there are several spots for a quick snack and photo op at the top. And the views, although not 360 degrees, are quite good.

We hiked Deer Mountain this year for the first time in several years. The view at the top is worth it, but we all felt it was a fairly hard hike with a decent amount of elevation. Bring lots of water! It is also better to do it in the morning because some of the trail is not covered and it can get warm in the afternoon in the summer on the trail.

Went off with my 15 yo daughter on this hike to the top. Great workout, but well worth the 10,000 foot hike. Initial path is not marked well and we were following a deer trail a portion of the way up the mountain. We made it up in less than 2 hours, (even with the detour) and down in just over 1 hour. It was an incredible view! Lots of shade along the way and places to rest. Use the restroom before you start and take water and snacks along as there is no amenities at all. We also saw some wildlife along the way. Wear good shoes.

Great hike away from the crowds if you get a reasonably early start (before 9AM). Don't turn around too soon! After about 2 miles of long switchbacks going up, the trail decends down for another half mile until you come to the summit sign. The summit has outstanding views all around. Many good spots for snack or lunch. My Garmin showed mileage at 6.4 miles round trip and total elevation gain of 1500 feet. Would definitely do this one again!

Went on a up and back hike as a family mid- June. It was a good warm up hike to get acclimated. Here's some tips if you want to go:
- Get to the trail head by 7:00am for a guaranteed parking spot and to avoid the crowd
- Plan 3 hours if you are in decent shape and spray up before embarking. The park service said there are lots of ticks on this mountain.
- The park service also commented that it's the most struck by lighting peak, so be done by noon to avoid afternoon thunderstorms.

This hike offers beautiful views of the valley. The western half of the trail is popular with tourists and well worn, even when it is snow packed. A short spur (less than .25 miles) leads from he trail to the summit, with excellent 360 views of Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. Although you will probably be breaking through the snow, as the trail is less popular, I highly recommend continuing east once you reach the summit and ending your hike outside of the park in the town of Estes, just a short walk from Coffee on the Rocks. Most people turn back at the summit and return to the trail head inside of Rocky Mountain National Park.

It took us about 3 hours to complete the ~6 mile-roundtrip to Deer Mountain, but it was well worth it. My wife and I started this trail since the park was mostly closed. We had no idea what to expect as this was a "rush" visit. But oh my, the scenery was just jaw dropping. There were moments we wanted to stop, but then hikers were encouraging us to complete the mission. I am very glad we did it. Up there, you just want to stay forever.

Some family members chose this trail during the Elk Fest weekend, believing it would be less popular than the others. But it attracted a good number of adventurers with its well-groomed and moderately challenging trail. There were many spots to stop and enjoy the beauty of the Rockies. Overall, it was a great choice of trails for a 3 hour hike. As a senior, I did wish I'd taken trekking poles for a few areas.
