Marmots galore! These roly-poly animals were whistling and climbing everywhere on the rocks below the overlook. We couldn't stay as long as we liked when thunder and lightning started. The second afternoon when we went stopped for another look, a herd of elk were crossing the path, coming up the mountain and one photographer was charged by the bull elk. Don't be "that guy" and keep the proper distance out of respect for the animals, if not for your own safety.

Forest Canyon is home to many picas and yellow-bellied marmots that are fun to watch. The marmots were on rocks sunning themselves. They hibernate about 8-9 months, so have a short time span in which to fatten up. Two weeks before they hibernate they stop eating to clean out their intestines. The view of the surroundings takes one's breath away in the best way.

Incredible views from the stop off Trail Ridge Road. Still very snowy in late May (the road had just opened that day). Lots of marmots to see and the beautiful valley/canyon below. Too bad people cannot be sensible or follow directions - way too many idiots for our taste (harassing the wildlife, going off trail, climbing over the fence/wall and just basically being idiots. Wish there was a Ranger present to corral them. The place itself is incredible though.

The views are gorgeous here and you can experience the tundra ecosystem. We had good views of birds and marmots here as well. Highly recommend.

There are a lot of overlooks on Trail Ridge Road and while the views at all are amazing, this one did stand out as a great visit, not for the view but the wildlife. We hiked several trails in the tundra but this was the only place I saw Pikas. Yes, the cuddly oversized mountain mouse was abundant at this overlook and this was the only place I saw them in the park. The views of a beautiful forested canyon between the tow tundra ridges is impressive. However, I could not keep my gaze for long as spotting the mountain mammals darting in and out of the rocks was our major focus here. I will say I did not get any pictures of the pikas as they do not stay in one place long; however, if you stop here you will see them.

I will say you do get great views of the rocky mountain tops shape by glacial forces. You will also get great views of the tundra area on top of the ridge. However, for me, this overlook will always stick out for one reason, Pikas.

This stop is located in the tundra of the mountains. You feel as if you are on top of the world! The views are pretty, but it can be windy and cold. Take time to stop and look around. Look for sheep.

The one thing we didn’t appreciate were the visitors who did not heed the well-placed signs asking people to stay off the tundra. Signs were visible, but yet, some decided to ignore them and go take their selfie standing in the tundra. We even saw one couple across the road taking selfies with their dog in the delicate tundra grasses!

In addition to excellent views (even with the fog), we were also treated to watching a few marmots. Nearby was a herd of elk.

Bring a jacket! It’s chilly, even in July.

Definitely a must do. It was one of the best overlooks on Trail Ridge Road. We stopped in the evening and it was very windy and pretty cool in June, so make sure to bring a jacket. Still snow covered right now so be careful.

It's the first week of October. We left our hotel at around 6 p.m. to enter the Park and drive to Forest Canyon Overlook to view the sunset. We were not disappointed. It's about halfway to the Alpine Center and a bit of a walk from the parking area to the Overlook. We arrived just in time to see the sun beginning to set. It was incredible. There were not very many people there so it was easy to take great photos. We were unable to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends due to the pandemic, so we took this five day trip by ourselves to one of our favorite places that we have visited many times before. It was freezing cold up at the Outlook and the wind was icy . But we wouldn't have missed it for the world. Enjoy the photos.
