Tucked away down a side street, this art gallery and crafts studio is line a mini Bahamian oasis. Beautiful, locally made paintings, wood carved bowls and arts and crafts. Make sure you chat with the staff working there, who have amazing backstories about the art and crafts they sell.

I stumbled on Doongalik Studios kind of by accident - was visiting Fort Montagu and “the ramp” for the freshest of conch salad, and decided to take a chance on what was rumored to be a lovely little local art cottage in the area. Doongalik Studios vastly exceeded my expectations. Everything has a story: the building, the huge variety of treasures created by local artists, and especially the lively shopkeepers Nadine and Fina, who continue to live this dream that they created many years ago. If you are looking for a special souvenir, meaningful gift, or a delightful interaction with people who love what they do and where they live, Doongalik Studios is your place!

I attended an Art Auction recently in aid of a young man recently killed in Nassau; the studio was beautifully arranged with portraits offering commentary on a dangerous issue (Speeding in the harbour) that lead to the death of Mr. Turnquest. There was a dark room specific to paintings that illuminated when the lights were turned off and that intrigued most of the viewers present. Outside of the studio, there was a quaint space for wine, finger foods and of course polite dancing. Overall it was an enjoyable event for a worthy cause.

I think someone told me that "Doongalik" is the sound of some large musical wind instrument, possibly a didgeridoo, but what that has to do with The Bahamas I have no idea! Anyway, it's a beautiful place to see both outside and inside. (Check out their web site to see what I mean.)The art displays are often dedicated to a single Bahamian artist, and they change perhaps about monthly. The owner, Pam Burnside, is the most wonderful, knowledgeable, and welcoming person you'll ever meet! During the cooler months, a farmer's market is held on the front porch on Saturday mornings.

Worth the visit as even the grounds are decorated with original sculptures. Mrs Burnside graciously allowed me to visit the studio after it was due to close as I had been delayed getting there. Thanks again so much!

Founded by one of the preeminent Junkanoo artists on the island, this gallery was a very sweet surprise and I enjoyed learning about the origins of Junkanoo.

The best way to describe this place is as a collection of culture. It is designed like a rural Bahamian village - quiet and surrounded by lush scenery on all sides, with little quaint buildings along a stone path. There are also some very unique and very distinctly Bahamian sculptures being displayed outside and it's a really nice touch. Being there always feels like you've been transported to simpler times somehow, back to when there was nature and there was the art of what we could create with it.

I've visited several times: most recently for their Farmer's Market and Trunk Show that was held last month. It was amazing! There was an incredible sense of community; everyone was so friendly and nice. There were a lot of different vendors selling locally made products: plants, herbs and vegetables, artwork and paintings, gorgeous handmade jewelry, and more. Plus the trunk show had many unique items to offer! That's one of the most wonderful things about this place - everything is unique. You can almost never visit and see the same thing twice. Whether it's the breathtaking pieces of art or the different workshops being held (art classes, jewelry making classes, etc).

There is always something new and the atmosphere is always as peaceful as it is inspiring. It's definitely worth at least one visit!

The art on display is unique and striking. There was also a special exhibit on elephants and their plight. All of the work was easy on the eyes, but that artist, in particular, created works of beauty that were soulful and introspective. While the artwork was too expensive for us, we still enjoyed our tour very much. Make it a point to visit the other studios in the complex; the Bahamas National Trust (AKA The Retreat) is a short walk down the road.

I would thoroughly recommend visiting this delightful art studio and shop in Village Road. The gallery is run by Pam Burnside who personally showed us around the art work. Next to it is a craft shop. It is unlike any other Bahamian shop which sells Bahamian crafts. The studio itself is set in a lovely garden and sells an amazing range of fantastic Bahamian craft objects...I took quite a few back to England. it is also opposite the gardens of the Bahamas National Trust - so make time for visiting there too.
