Although this “resort” facility was probably great before the 2019 storms and COVID, the management hasn’t updated the photos for it at all. That said, if you have made a reservation with this place PLEASE do yourself and your partner or family a favor and change to a different accommodation ASAP. We could barely tolerate one night here. There was one person doing all the cooking (fish heads and bare backbones in the “soup”), the place looked like a storm had battered it repeatedly. The doors were off their hinges and didn’t lock. The bathrooms were dismal and rusted. The food? Forget about it. Army MREs would’ve been at least edible. I didn’t want to eat ANYTHING there, and I’m not a picky eater and love Indo food. I was truly shocked that a place in this shape would pretend to be open for business and ready for guests. It was honestly horrible. It’s a pity: Seram is a gorgeous island with beautiful mountains and jungles and flowers, and the snorkeling is absolute fantastic. Just stay SOMEWHERE ELSE besides Ora Beach. Don’t stay here.

There are many, many pros to this resort, and a few cons ...
Firstly, the location is unbelievably beautiful - a real tropical beach paradise -and the blues and greens of the water and the forest background are breathtaking. The water is warm and clear, and the corals near the resort are healthy - not the most spectacular in the area but still very good indeed. We went snorkeling straight off the beach, which has gorgeous light sand, is ideal for children.
The grounds are very well maintained, lush with trees and flowers.
The verandas of the over-the-sea bungalows, where we stayed, are really lovely. They’re furnished with two wooden chairs (uncomfortable), a table, nice sun lounger, and a wooden stand to dry clothing. You just sit and watch the fish below. A turtle swam past our veranda!
We did a day boat excursion (1,500,000 Rupiah) to the Seven Islands, which was worth every penny. We visited two snorkeling sites, both of which were spectacular. The corals were every shade of pink, purple, blue, yellow and green, and the fish were myriad. There aren’t many places where the coral is this healthy, so book now if you want to see them. While we were there, a group of students from Java walked out onto the coral reef ... they said they were only stepping on sand, but there was a strong current, and they were horsing around and taking photos, so there’s no doubt they damaged the coral. It’s so sad.
The resort restaurant is also right over the sea, where a huge shoal of some sort of fish (not colourful, but so numerous!) has taken up residence.
The staff serve “afternoon tea”, which is a nice idea. IMHO as a Brit, the tea was undrinkable, but hot water and milk were available so we used our own teabags. Also with the tea came banana and other fritters, and on one day, a tasty cake.
And we saw a cuscus! What a sweetie it was. A couple of members of staff spent a few hours searching the trees with torches for them for us, which was greatly appreciated. And finally, on our last night, there it was.
The Cons ...
The bungalows are in a lovely location, and are bright but rustic. Very clean, so long as you’re meticulous about never leaving food anywhere, as it attracts zillions of tiny ants. My friend had an apple in her luggage, and the little blighters found that in an instant. Once we learned not to leave titbits around, no more ants.
There’s no AC, so you survive on a floor fan. There’s no glass or curtain in the bathroom, which gives a fabulous view, but also gives anyone coming round to that side of the veranda a real eyeful! Luckily, there didn’t seem to be many mosquitoes. The bathroom door had no handle on the inside, which made it difficult to open, which was very annoying.
No beach towels were provided, though the staff did supply a couple of normal towels on demand. They took them away again the next day!
There were also no hair dryers, not a single one, and NO HOT WATER. You’d think that would be ok in the tropics ... a nice cold shower. But when you’ve been out all day snorkeling, are still in your damp costume, and are then caught in tropical rain, you really want a hot shower. The staff did provide, on demand, a large thermos flask if hot water, so you could at least do a warm rinse of hair at the end.
The resort’s claim to be an eco resort is somewhat dubious. You go snorkeling all day, then several members of staff are out in the evening fishing from the pier. It just felt odd. The generator goes full blast all day (the nearest land cottages must be disturbed by that) and there appears to be no solar paneling. The corals on the public beach on the far side of the jetty are totally degraded, by boat anchors and the day trippers.
In general, the food wasn’t great. For two days we were the only two guests, and there was no choice for lunch or dinner ... the plate was just put in front of us. Breakfast was chicken and vegetables, until we said no thanks to that, after which it was one sort of fruit (papaya or watermelon) and toast. On our last day there were more guests, so there was a small buffet - with very little for vegetarians. There was a breakfast buffet too, with some cereals and milk.
Considering we were the only guests, the service could be extremely slow ... an hour’s wait for the hot water, for example.
The staff were very kind and friendly but few of them had more than basic English. I’m not sure how we would have coped without our excellent guide Sylvia, employed by the travel company we were using, SIGNATURE PAPUA. Sylvia had excellent English and was soooo helpful.
Something the resort had no control over ... because of global warming, April can not be relied on to be dry. It poured with rain every afternoon from about one or two o’clock. Localized over the resort too - other areas nearby seemed to miss the tropical storms which always hit Ora Beach.
Despite all these cons, we would definitely go again. It’s a fabulous location, warm coral seas, tropical fish, beautiful beach ... overall, lovely.

Just couldn't believe you will find the most spectacular view all are still green and fresh air. It seems we are in heaven. The water so clear a lot of fish such a gigantic Aquarium. You just jump in to the beach you still find a lot of beautiful fish. To get here it is need a lots of effort, you may get by public transport or rent motorcycle or car please don't drive from the ferry in the evening so dark also you can see the beautiful of Seram Island. You should do travel early in the morning you will see the sunrise also. Along the way to Ora Beach are spectacular view. To have a good rate you may visit or browsing on the internet there are so many homestay and hotel you can stay. No recommend to walk from the ferry to the ora beach would take some time may be a day also. it is ora beach one of beautiful place I have been visited.

Hello there!
Thanks for your great review about Ora beach resort. I am planning a trip there in August for 3 nights and would like to ask you if you think it's better to book the full package (trip included) or just the hotel and book the trip separated? I've noticed that the price for the package is quite expensive 3800000 RP for 3 nights trip included in comparaison to 700000/night for the floating house which would be 2100000 for the 3 nights. Looking forward to hear your feedback also if you have any other reccomendation of must visit places around sulawesi I am all hears. Many thanks xx, Eny.
I read some reviews where guest where complaining about the price for the acutal service they offer.

From Malaysia you can fly to pattimura AirPort in ambon. Then you go to tulehu harbour, take boat (about 2 hours) to masohi city. Then car about 2 hours to saka village.
