Great historical stop & really enjoyed the area & trails. Quite an accomplishment of the actual bridge construction & how it has survived all these years. We found the trail signs & actual bridge directions were not well marked out, depending upon the direction you arrived from. Would recommend an improvement for local & tourists visiting the area to stop & enjoy the beauty & peace fullness. Appreciated the fact that the area was clean & that visitors appreciated the beauty & nature by respecting the area, especially for the local residents that live there.

Made a stop here out of the blue on our way to Toronto. The bridge has some cool history and was a nice little walk. Great for photo shoots

Very nice and secluded trail.
Small town trail - very nice and quiet and cute location. Part of a larger series of trails, nice place to go for a walk/stroll.
The bridge is pretty nice and is a nice backdrop for the trail and to take photos on the trail. Good spot to take your date as just the name would help be a good conversation starter (where a kiss was required as a toll to pass it)

The bridge was under maintenance at the day we visited at the beginning of Sep-2019. The neighbors probably sick and tired from the tourists, that is why they limited access to the river around the bridge and installed unfriendly signs. If you are coming not for cycling around, just don't waste your time.

Cycling from trailhead on Silvercreek pkwy (Guelph) to Wallenstein great, easy. Check the All Trails site to see the stairs at Katherine St.(a surprise) Which 2 km detour takes you to Kissing Bridge. Once you return to the trail after the detour, it was straight and easy to Wallenstein. Will have to explore from Wallenstein to end another day. Lunch in Elmira best option. Great trail, great views and Elmira has a planted forest, wonderful. Tips extra tubes and pump, no amenities on trail anywhere. No services available after 12 noon Saturdays, closed Sundays. Snacks and lots of water required as well. Roadbikes can manage to Wallenstein, pebble/dust conditions. Can't speak to rest. Beautiful communities.

I rode part of this trail today starting from Ariss and heading towards Elmira. It started out OK but what looked like work being done in the name of maintenance was making for a terrible experience, and no signs indicating anything going on. Apparently sand was being laid down in long stretches and not being compacted. It was quite difficult to navigate with my hybrid tires. I mean swerving unexpectedly. It only started to get bad about 4km from Ariss. We managed to get to Katherine Street where nothing I had read prepared me for the steep set of stairs to climb.(the trail otherwise dead ended there) We made our way across Regnl Rd 86 and up Middlebrook Rd to get back on the trail, once there, we found the conditions even worse. The sand was downright dangerous and at times my wheels wouldn’t turn at all. There would be no lunch in Elmira. We had to turn back. This review may only be valid for a short time. We crossed paths with a woman who warned us about the trek to Elmira. She had already been to Elmira. It was only on her way back to Ariss that conditions had changed. ie some work had been done. I believe she said she had to walk her bike through parts. This is why we didn’t bother trying to go any further. HOWEVER she said she had been riding this trail the past 12 years and it was always good. She said her brother just rode it a few days ago and it was good. I wish I knew when it would be good again. If someone doesn’t come by to compact the sand then I have to wonder. The scenery had the potential to be wonderful, but I had to watch where my tires were going. With over an hour’s Drive for us to get to Ariss, I’m not sure we will try this again. If anyone goes out there soon, perhaps this info can be updated by them.

I rode the trail from Guelph to Wallenstein and back: 35km x2
Trail condition: 8.5/10 hard packed gravel and dirt
Bike: Road bike with slick tires
Google maps and it told me exactly where to find "West Montrose Covered Bridge" and cross the Grand river. The quaint bridge is the highlight. Overall an easy flat ride through the beautiful pastoral fields and Mennonite farms. It offers plenty of shade with about 60% of the trial under foliage. There are gated entrances every couple of KM so it's easy to access the trail from dozens of roads. The fine gravel is was hard packed and smooth. There was some washboarding on the double tracks from tractors. With little rain in the previous 2 days the trail was dry. Humidity was low so mosquitoes was not a problem.

The "Kissing Bridge" is a covered bridge in West Montrose, Ontario over the Grand River. It is the last wooden covered bridge in Ontario and the oldest such bridge in Canada. It was built in 1880–1881 mostly of oak and white pine by John Bear for $3,197.50. It is an excellent location at which to see Old Order Mennonites crossing with their horses and buggies, especially on Sundays.
