Dreadful 'Magical Christmas Launch Event'
There were few christmas decorations, and indeed your christmas 'display' by the fairy garden was the sorriest looking christmas effort I have ever seen.

Your advertising implied several things that the day did not deliver - there was nothing magical about the day, there were a couple of rubbish christmas decorations outside the entrance and an effort in the garden - but no lights and I have seen more magic in an episode of grotbags

There was no seperate opportunity to meet Santa - 9he just hung round at the end of the parade.

The parade was 20-30 minutes late and it was freezing cold that day much to the frustration of my 2 year old.

Santas sleigh was being pulled by a reindeer and a human which ruined the effect for the kids

Nowhere on your website did it state that the scavenger hunt was an extra £3.50. This scavenger hunt was not age appropriate for younger kids and this should have been made clearer. At the end of the parade, I had to go searching for the scavenger hunt prizes. The prize that we took home lasted 1 day before breaking.

When we arrived we were given limited information - ie. Where to get hot food, where the parade would be starting from/finishing.

We queued for 40minutes to get hot food only to be told that they were only serving hot food in the bar next door - there was no signage to this effect. I even looked in the bar and saw it was a bar and we had ordered hot food from the coffee shop on a previous visit and so we queued there.

When we arrived at the front of the queue we complained about not being warned about the hot food situation on the day and the young girl said 'it's not my problem' indeed, when we did identify whose problem it was she arrnaged for us to have a hot pork roll from next door.  My liitle boy was most disappointed with his picnic lunch (photo of stale sandwich attached). Why weren't we told about the power issues when we arrived? I understand that there were circumstances beyond your control but we should have been fully informed

The pork roll was luke warm and the bun fell apart as soon as I bit into it, indicating that it was not as fresh as I would expect

The christmas crafts were a couple of colouring in sheets thrown out on tables - again a poor effort

All in all it was a truly dreadful day. Your website and facebook advertising campaigns promised a magical day and a fantastic atmosphere. Your marketing was way off point. We left your establishment disappointed, hungry, cold and £47 poorer

Still awaiting a reply to my email sent on 30th November

Visited recently with my mum and young daughter.
The venue itself was nice but service very poor and had to ask for a manager twice!!
My mum and I were having the afternoon tea experience. I had called beforehand and asked if it was ok to bring my daughter along. I explained she wouldn’t eat the afternoon tea food but would it be ok to grab her a kids packed lunch in the cafe (next door to the Tea Barn) for her to eat with us. Was told Jim problem.
Also advised I can’t eat butter and could my sandwiches be made without. Also told no problem and to just ask on arrival.
When we arrived, we were shown to a table and just left for 10 mins - no explanation of food on offer and how to order (ie whether table service or order at bar). Had to ask the young woman serving who was also waiting on 8 other tables singlehandedly. Also advised the server that I can’t eat butter and could I have my sandwiches without pls. Was told no problem and chef would be informed.
Popped next door to cafe to grab packed lunch for daughter. No food. Sandwiches completely sold out (at 1pm). I explained my daughter hadn’t eaten lunch, I’d bought nothing for her and that we were next door having afternoon tea. Asked if they could make an exception and make a sandwich up for her and was told no. Chef was too busy with a wedding. I asked to speak to a manager who then quickly agreed to make up a ham sandwich for her and bring next door.
My daughter sorted, our food arrived shortly after. All sandwiches had butter / spread. I pointed this out to the server who went away to speak to speak to the chef. 5 mins later she returned to advise it wasn’t butter but margarine. I told her that I can’t eat either (I’m not allergic but I haven’t eaten since I was a child as the taste makes me feel physically sick). Server went away again and returned another 5 mins later to advice that they couldn’t make up sandwiches without spread as chef was too busy with the wedding.
Doesn’t take a genius to work out that if you are going to be too busy catering for a wedding and unable to cater your other guests, don’t take bookings for afternoon teas / don’t open to the public!
It’s one thing to make a mistake (mistakes happen!) but to then effectively refuse to rectify isn’t on!! Asked for a manager again and was eventually told they would make some more without spread. Finally after a load of stress / hassle and everyone else had finished eating, my sandwiches arrived but funnily enough I’d lost my appetite.
On leaving, the server apologised and said they would like to refund my afternoon tea with a voucher and could I give them my contact details. I wrote down email address and phone number thinking that under the circumstances this was a decent gesture.
3 weeks later, I’ve heard nothing. Have emailed to ask where my refund / voucher is and still no response- seems they are now ignoring me altogether. Awful service and awful experience. Will definitely o be visiting again and will warn everyone against the afternoon tea

Really disappointed that my first trip back to Old Down Country Park post-COVID was such a flop. I used to love visiting with my kids but today was such a let down - I feel like I paid £28.50 for the kids to just play on the swings which they could have done for free at the local playground.

The place just looks sad and run down now - the pop-your-face-in-for-photos plinths were faded and peeling, there was a broken bucket in the sandpit, the toy excavator didn't work, there was a hole in the jumping pillow which the patch applied was no longer covering, there were patches of protective mesh with no activity left which were just a trip hazard and rubbish in the animal pens (cardboard etc).

To top it off, the food in the cafe (which was takeaway/eat outside only) was minimal and there was nothing my kids wanted to eat so we ended up leaving after just under an hour to get them food elsewhere. A total waste of money and unfortunately we won't be coming back!

Went for Sunday lunch. I had high expectations but got there to find the barn dirty with tables dirty from the previous diners. We were shown to a clean table to be seated. The barn was empty apart from us and one small family. We were served by a young girl on her own, eventually another girl turned up and started to clean up. We ordered roast beef for lunch but it was cold. We did not complain, but were disappointed especially as there was no one else there. There was plenty of food and all fresh, could have been lovely, if hot! Dessert was lovely but did not stand up to my expectations, cold food, no staff, just young girls and dirty tables. As a second sitting we expected clean tables and a swept floor from the previous dinners, dirty plates glasses food all over the floor not what we were expecting such a shame .

Nice country park with animals and several play areas with trampolines and lots of things for children to play on
There is a cafe and small farm shop and a nice area fir walking however we went round it in about an hour without children
The entrance fee if 9.50 an adult whilst a nice venue not really value for money if you are an adult just wanting a walk and say hello to a few donkeys, goats and chickens

4/5 due to the reduced ticket price making it a great value day out.

We visited end of Sept. There was a wedding on when we came so the walled garden and toddler play area were closed to the public. Check the website before you go as it did make us aware of this. The great thing was they reduced the ticket price to £5 per person (usually £9.50 adult, £6.50 child over 2, under 2 free), this made it a fantastic value for money activity.
Even with the toddler area closed there was enough to occupy us for several hours. You can pay £1 for a bag of food and feed the majority of the animals. There is a range of animals from cows, goats, wallabies to alpacas.
In the adventure play area there is a large jumping pillow, a few slides, zip wire and obstacle course. No play bus as advertised, maybe due to covid it had been removed.

There are some improvements that could be made:
* Toilets: there was only one toilet area which all the way back at the main entrance and it wasn't very clean. They could do with having some toilets by the adventure park.
Animals: they need more staff caring for the animals. I saw at least 4 or 5 gardeners around the park, the flower displays were beautiful. There was only one gentleman looking after all the animals on the day when we came. We were informed there are two animal keepers but for all the animals in the park I feel more than two are needed.

My daughter celebrated her wedding at the manor two weeks ago. It’s clear that the Manor House and grounds do all the heavy lifting when it comes to the attraction to get married there! Everything was great up to when the wedding started then sadly after then the service wasn’t great at all. Just a minor thing during the wedding breakfast coffee wasn’t served at the table it was put in another room and was cold. The evening food was poor and there were little and at times no staff available (possibly due to the current Covid situation) The rooms are not cheap, they’re beautiful but with no toilet paper, toiletries or complementary hot beverage items it was a little disappointing. The breakfast the following morning was also cold and again very short staffed. I must say that all the staff that I spoke to extremely pleasant and helpful…..just not enough of them. We all had a wonderful time at the wedding the venue is amazing, but it’s such a shame that they fell short of the ‘wow’ factor I expected with regards to the service from this venue.

Visited yesterday 18.9.21.
Overall lovely place, good facilities and lovely play area. HOWEVER, we were extremely saddened by the animal welfare here. The enclosures were very dirty, had not been cleaned out for some time, one enclosure was covered inch to inch with flies due to the filth. Another enclosure had a hen with chick's and the water bowl was empty and green, my mum leaned over to grab the bowl and cleaned and filled the bowl with the hose pipe by the gate, the chick's and hen ran to the bowl, were clearly very very thirsty. We found this distressing.
If you are going to keep and advertise animals, please take care of them.

I visited today with 2 friends, a 9 year old child and well behaved dog.
A lovely park in a nice location but some improvements are needed.
I have broken my leg and my 2 friends had to push me in a non-motorised wheelchair. The whole park was not wheelchair friendly and the terrain was very rough and uneven and the pets corner was not accessible.
All our party were disappointed that the cafe didn't provide a better choice and range of light lunches and snacks.
The animal park and play area would benefit from portable toilets and selling ice creams.

I was saddened by the animal welfare of this place. The enclosures were filthy and a number of the animals had notable injuries. I've been to a few country parks and I've never seen such poor animal welfare. Wouldn't return. The entrance fee is plenty to afford to care for the animals. Also, the pigs only had mud. Pigs need clean, dry space and the mud is only for cooling off in. Very disappointed.
