What an absolutely horrid experience we had going to port Issac last year.
we parked outside this business with a view to entering the gallery and the going for lunch , as we closed the car door we was screamed at by the proprietor from an above window , that we don’t park there and told us we would get a ticket.
My wife having worked for Essex police for several years insisted we are doing nothing wrong as there are absolutely no restrictions which left him very angry to say the least .
On our return this year there are signs in the window ( as per photo) DANGER ROOF FALLING yet another excuse I believe for you not to park there and scream more obscenities to victims like ourselves.
Should you attend port Issac feel free to park there and claim off his insurance should any such thing happen .
Thankfully this experience was isolated and found others vendors absolutely amazing

I don't understand the reviews that call this village 'soulless'. There is much more to Port Isaac than fisherman's friends and Doc Martin.
Port Isaac was a busy fishing port and from the Middle Ages to the mid-19th century it was an active harbour, shipping cargoes of stone, coal, timber and pottery. Clues remain around the village which we learnt about on the Doc Martin tour as well as village facts. A lookout would wait for the sea to turn purple so they knew the pilchards were in the vicinity and the whole village would work to get the nets out. Fishing and fish-processing were also very important and today there are still fishermen working from the harbour. The life boat was originally housed where the 'boathouse' shop is now. Parts of buildings had to be removed to allow access through the narrow roads.
Where else would you find a place called 'Squeezy belly alley'?
Yes, there are lots of holiday lets but that is the home owners choice. You need to stay in the heart of the village to truly appreciate it. There are still locals living there. Everyone is friendly and accommodating.
The main carpark is at the top of a very steep road but there is a taxi service to the harbour if required.

A typical Cornish fishing village, best known as the fictional Port Wenn in the series, Doc Martin, and full of recognisable buildings and scenes from the series. Located on the craggy Cornish north coast, there is good public parking and spectacular scenery with accessible walking. Enough to do here to warrant a day trip and with some quirky shops and great pubs and restaurants. Not cheap to eat out and the holiday cottage accommodation market dominates so although a working fishing village, holiday lets seem to outnumber permanent homes, as is the case across this popular county sadly. I can imagine Port Isaac to be very busy in the main summer season but April and May when we visited were relatively quiet.

I suspect if the tv series Doc Martin wasn't filmed in Port Isaac then few people would visit. Yes, it's a fairly pretty little fishing village - with lots of more modern houses built on the outskirts - but with not a lot to do. There are apparently walking tours that help discover Doc Martin sites but without that there's nothing to help with a self guided tour unless you've done your homework or remember all the show's sights.

We did find Doc Martin's 'home' - chained off - and the school.

And, of course, the harbour which this review is ostensibly about. It's a small harbour and recognisable from the tv show. Not much more to say, really.

We stayed three nights to gain a sense of place. The roads are narrow and steep. More than anything in the States. Be prepared to walk hills in both the village and do get out onto the Coastal Path (in both directions) where if you go any distance, there are even more and steeper hills. If you come by rail (to Bodmin Parkway) make sure to book a taxi in advance to meet you at the station (and book the return trip). For those who drive, the car parks are on the brow of the hill.

You can’t help but feel that this village is dead.

When I say that, I mean that hardly anybody lives here. And it’s hardly surprising really - because every 2 minutes some gormless tourist is wondering around looking for some Dr Martins. Or fisherman's friends.

And you’ll never find either here because there isn’t a shoe shop, and no general stores.

There’s some nice food places. And it’s very quaint and all. It would be so much better if Dr Martins and fisherman’s friends never existed. Because then it would be like it was 30 years ago when I was last here.

It was a stop on our organized tour. Except the fact the parking place is a bit far and you have to walk for the village center, is was a beautiful walk. We took the way to the edge of the cliffs to see the angry sea and came back for the center of the village. Nice small houses, friendly people, small shops and restaurants. Don’t regret we stopped.
Be careful with the weather how you dress and at your shoes.
Loved to see from where Fisherman Friends started (nice music).

My husband and I thought we had visited most places in Cornwall but never managed to visit Port Isaac. Pretty little fishing village and quaint shops. Weather brightened up for us to enjoy a stroll.

An absolute gem of a place, the views and scenery are fantastic. A bit of a steep walk down but we'll worth it with plenty of vantage points on the way. There are some little shops and cafes on route. You can do tours of the area but we didn't do one. The RNLI staff were really pleasant and happy to show the children their boat and what they do. There are a range of amenities like restaurants, pubs, pasty shop, ice cream, cafe, souvenirs etc.
You can walk to all areas, ncluding the house where Doc Martin is filmed, the harbour is nice and we sat and had a drink watching the tide come in which was most relaxing.
We will definitely be returning. lovely place.

One of the more traditional places.
Despite becoming well known through 'Doc Martin', Post Isaac has retained much of the original charm and original buildings.
Pleased we took time out for a stop off and a meal here.
