tourist information
sept. 2021
As the main tourist info site in Exeter is closed, (covid and from we have been told it is unlikely to reopen) this building houses the only TI site in Exeter. It is small, but well equipped. Staff were friendly and fairly knowledgeable.

Be warned though, if you do the self guided walk around the city walls then the route is blocked in 2 separate places.

Great building, beautifully decorated and an inspiring renovation
sept. 2020
The centre is also used for meetings but it certainly worth a visit. The staff member was extremely helpful and engaging and full of information and I think a volunteer. A msut visit if you are on the quay-side.

Worth a visit
sept. 2020
It was chucking down with rain when I viisted and I must admit the main reason why I visited this building was to get out of the rain! It makes for an interesting visit nevertheless - small but with plenty of information about the buildings former use as of course a customs house and of course about the different things that were traded through Exeter for which taxes were paid. Its worth a visit if in this part of the city.

Interesting for a short visit

Interesting place with lovely ceilings in plaster. Lots of history to read about the local wool trade and get the feel of how things were hundreds of years ago.

A great introduction to the role of a Customs House and the role of tax collectors
mai 2021
This is a beautiful gem of history dealing with the building, the role the building served and a lot of the role of this building to commerce in Exeter.

This building has numerous exhibits together with numerous display panels that provide a great presentation. This also covers a spectrum of the role of Customs and tax collection for the King.

Interesting building

Plaster work on the ceilings must be viewed and the king's pipe. Worth a visit. Scheduled to be turned into a state of the art visitor centre (hope the fundraising is successful) hence the reason for the current layout.

The Historic Custom House
mars 2020 • En famille
Popped into the Exeter Custom House this weekend, it’s not always open so check times before travelling. Beautiful historic building at the centre of the quay and has so many interesting things to look at and learn about Exeter and it’s woollen trade from back in the day. Fascinating!!

Was that all?
août 2019 • En solo
It's free so I didn't waste any money, rooms were full of book sellers and a print workshop. A lot of exhibits were either behind them or put away, there was a video room that nobody used when I was there. I left wondering if I'd missed something as there so little to see.
