Only 1 star I'm afraid. Great location but that's about it. Nothing to see in the castle, really expensive parking that you can only pay for with coins or through app, as there's no mobile signal take plenty of cash. The coffee in the world's most expensive cafe was very good, as it should be for nearly £4 each. Bring a picnic if you're hungry.

Came on Easter Sunday. After queuing for the cafe for 40 minutes realised that’s it’s a plant based cafe. Not impressed! The food was awful and tasteless. Completely unnecessary to have a vegan cafe and very discriminating against meat eaters! Maybe the national trust should be making more of an effort to support the local hardworking farmers that surrounds the national trust sites rather than feeding highly processed food flown from who knows where!

Wray Castle was a huge letdown. For starters, the drive there is not for the faint of heart. Narrow roads and reckless drivers made it a stressful journey.

Once inside the castle, it became clear that there's hardly anything to see or do. It seems like they've removed the fun and interactive areas that families with young children used to enjoy. I spoke to a staff member who mentioned a refurbishment and a "Potters gallery" will be installed, as if that would make up for taking away the kids' play areas. Frankly, it sounds like they were annoyed that parents were letting their children be children.

This kind of major change should have been clearly advertised on their website before we wasted our time.

Beware to enter you have to travel through Narrow country lanes National trust members.
Free parking with membership card
Entry free(I think on our visit for all)
Gets very busy AM, we arrived 2 pm on first visit and just started to walk when we was informed closing for emergency, so next day same time plenty of parking spaces.
The outside of The Wray is great, good views, and some great walks along Windermere lake,
Only one room with anything of interest showing history of building with old pictures giving insight to lives lived here, three other rooms bit bare with a tent placed in one??
Inside gives an idea of condition at the time(cold😊)
Second level was closed so no idea if anything worthwhile to see.
It’s worth a visit and if you like a walk it’s ideal.
Staff friendly and informative
Toilets available
Cafe available

An interesting place to visit with some good walking around. Parking can be a problem at peak times. Only ground floor of castle open but free apart from parking charges

Visited the Lakes so many times & members of the National Trust,Wray Castle was one place we hadn't visited.Interesting Castle but not a lot to see.
The volunteers that run it were very helpful & knowledgable, as a disabled visitor & can't walk or climb stairs,a door was very kindly opened at ground level to allow me access for which I was very grateful.
The scenery round about was amazing, my husband was able to walk round the grounds but being in a mobility scooter myself the paths were too rough for me to negotiate.
All in all a great visit.

Amazing looking castle. There is no furniture in the rooms but great ceilings. Photo exhibition interesting. Loved the boat house. The only downside Joey's Cafe which was dire.

A striking castle externally.
Would’ve loved to have had more access internally. A fab volunteer guide gave us a great account of the history of the castle and its connection to Beatrix Potter.

Lovely grounds. Set along part of Windermere lake. Boat tour departs from grounds. Geocaches to find.

Restaurant on site very busy but great choice of food! Fresh soup and curry.

Typical National Trust. So inclusive it’s now exclusionary. Joey’s: a vegan cafe. Absolute filth (rubber cheese, don’t forget to crush your cans as it saves lives (?!!!)). Coffee ok. Bring a packed lunch…

The Castles Interior was shocking, So glad we didn’t need to pay. There were a few empty rooms, except for a sparse room with a tv on the wall and a tent in the corner. The upstairs were boarded off along with a few other rooms on the ground floor.. We managed to get in and out within a few minutes.

The exterior was amazing. The views were lovely and the outside of the castle was very well maintained. It was nice to walk around late and point out where certain Movies were filmed. The walk was great however it would have been ideal to have a few bins around. The cafe round the back was very expensive and only sold average food, there also wasn’t any bins to put packaging in.

The ambiance and the exterior of the location were the highlights of the trip and are definitely worth visiting, but I would not suggest going inside the castle as it let us all down.
