Went to try pike fishing for the first time ever, and turned up early on a Sunday morning. I was introduced to my guide for the day ( dave ), who had all the gear we required for our day on the lake, rods bait etc.
You could tell Dave knew his business straight from the off, he drove us to our first location, and within minutes had three rods spread out the boat anchored up, and had me watching the floats in what could only be called a hoping vigil.
Unfortunately the weather took a turn for the worst, it started raining.
But within an hour dave pointed out one of the floats was on the move, under the guidance of Dave a successful strike was made, and my first ever pike was was reeled in.
Dave netted and unhooked the pike, i had a few selfies with the pike, who probably weighed in at around 8-10 pound, not a monster but a great catch all the same.
Dave and i stayed out for a few more hours, but the rain was that bad that even my waterproofs gave up and water started to seep in, so being cold and wet, i gave up on the hope of a second pike,
Still it was a most enjoyable day, and dave was great company. The may of ended in a soggy drive home, but i would do it all again.

We found Esthwaite Water very picturesque and quiet. It was very relaxing to spend some time by the water and we decided to hire a boat to do the Osprey Experience. It cost £25 for an hour and we took the boat out to where the Ospreys were nesting. We were lucky enough to witness both adults in flight which really was such a majestic sight.
We would thoroughly recommend visiting as it is so tranquil and there is an abundance of wildlife around the water.

We had a great time.
The weather was sunny and nice which really helped, and the staff were really friendly, both at the café and the boat hire. It was worth having two hours in the boat as it gave enough time to get around most of the lake, and to spend some time watching the ospreys.Although the young had left, we were still lucky enough to see the adult birds.
The whole experience was really good as the boat was so quiet,

Horrendous attitude from the owner.
The guy clearly hates his job and the atmosphere from the other staff reflect this.
Do everyone a favour and hand this over to someone else as it would be a fantastic business if in the right hands.
If you hate the job that much then do everyone a favour and give it up as we don’t won’t to have to deal with your unhappy miserable attitude.
Such a shame but trust me do not go while still under his current management you will be enraged and disappointed beyond belief.

We were greeted terriblly by who we thought to be the manager of the fishery. Incredibly rude, unfriendly, condescending and unhelpful.
He told us to use single hooks only for the trout , which we understand the reason for. But next time, pre warn people on your website under rules and regs or over phone when they book with you - rather than trying to embarrass and patronise us when we rock up there like we were supposed to know already.
Can you point me in the direction of where you have specified this rule for anglers before they turn up?
I believe his name to be Dave? Seemed like he had woken up on the wrong side of the bed that morning.

I’m not really sure what to write tonight after reflecting on our afternoon of fishing. What sticks in my mind is my daughters comments about the staff and there rude and unhelpful approach. When a 14 year impressionable girl hears and sees men act in a way which is blunt, rude and unhelpful when all she wants to do is enjoy an afternoon of fishing, I just feel
disappointed that two people who have a wealth of experience don’t take the opportunity to inspire a young person and impart their knowledge in a friendly and approachable way. When we arrived I spoke to one of the members of staff who bluntly told me that we couldn’t do a family experience despite being told on the telephone not an hour earlier that we could. We we’re told to speak to another member of staff who would deal with us. The other member of staff was blunt, unfriendly and gave the impression that he just could t be bothered. We completed payment and we’re given some equipment and told to go to the pontoon and told that he would join us to ‘bait up’. After about 10 mins the member of staff came to the pontoon to set up one of the boats, at which point , he noticed that we didn’t have rods, saying “oh you haven’t got rods “. He didnt offer to get them but bluntly said “ come with me”. I was given the rods and returned to the pontoon. We enjoyed a few hours fishing and caught a few small fish, but it was by no means as successful as previous visits ( that’s fishing). At one stage I saw another young fisher person on another nearby pontoon catch a fish and apparently not feel comfortable removing the hook. The mother of the children asked the young boy to find help. The young boy appeared nervous but approached the member of staff who was stood on some boats behind us, The young boy did speak to the member of staff from a distance but all I heard was the member of staff say “I can see your lips moving but I can’t hear anything”. Why speak to someone like this. What is to be gained by being so unpleasant and unhelpful. Interestingly later in the afternoon both staff members became more friendly and helpful, but the damage was done. We’ve visited several times, but we’ll never return.

Seeing the ospreys was awesome, so 5 stars experience wise.
Fella who served us was totally ignorant and rude. Lad who helped us off the boat was friendlier.
Hopefully it will re-open next year as it's too lovely a place not to. Fingers crossed the osprey platform will be maintained for next years ospreys.

We found this place by accident whilst mooching about and omg are we so glad we did. It's a fab little cafe, food is lovely and the price is excellent. Also hired a boat for an hour and went off to look at the osprey (all protected by boundaries which are illegal to cross), we did see them whilst we were out but if you miss them there's always a chance you might see them on the live camera which is shown in the cafe. Not guaranteed though. Overall we will use the cafe as our go to whilst staying nearby. Would recommend to anyone who is visiting nearby hawkshead to spend an hour or two here.

Husband and son went fishing here last week. It was arranged quite late and there wasn’t availability initially, for the 4 hour guided fishing, but Dave gave up his day off to fit them in. It was well organised, plenty of fish caught, and a lot learnt. They were full of smiles during and after their fishing. Dave takes the fishing seriously, but then there is a lot to be learnt, and many fish to be caught!

We stayed in Hawkshead and met another couple just before they left and they told us about this little Gem.
They were right. A cracking Cafe great coffee and cakes etc and a beautiful view.
We sat outside in the Sunshine our last morning, watching the Trout jump completely out of the water catching flies, while the anglers on either side of that little bay counted flies! Tee hee.
They had lots of wildlife photos in the cafe and a live Cam feed to a nearby Osprey nest.
Not something I would normally comment on but the WC's in a little hut were such a surprise. Looked dodgy but inside were cleaner and better appointed than some supposedly good Hotels we've stayed in.
What a wonderful memory (the cafe and Lake, not the WC's!)
