Mansion House of City of London : les meilleures façons d'en profiter
La région
Adresse
Quartier: La City

The Mansion House is home (and office) to the Lord Mayor of London not the Mayor of London (which is a wider elected/political post) The Lord Mayor relates to the City of London, not the wider area.

The Mansion House is beyond doubt incredibly spectacular and is used for a number of major functions (such as the annual Mansion House speech by the Chancellor). Additional it's in “perfect” order, whereas we are used to buildings of this age being faded and somewhat “worn”

On the standard tour I (strongly) got the feeling we weren't wanted, but politically they had to do tours. “We have to be quiet, as the Lord Mayor may be around” we were told, additionally we were not allowed to wander one inch from the group (so not look at the amazing art work for example). No photos at all allowed. Arriving a few minutes early, we were made to wait outside in the rain, not in the reception area.

Additionally the security in place is worrying. They have an airport style scanner, but only bags were scanned, not people and what they had in pockets etc – one assumes that terrorists now put knives in bags not pockets !!

Mansion House is in the City of London which was the financial district of the city up to the late 20th century. It is not far from Bank Tube station and there are plenty of buses moving around the area too.

It is a very grand building and the home of the Lord Mayor of London. I believe they have many grand functions here as well.

If you like architecture this place is worth checking out.

Attended the Lord Mayor’s gala dinner in March at his official residence. One of the most beautiful and iconic settings I’ve ever dined at in London! Full of historic harm. I will definitely return, as a tourist this time, to view it’s splendid collection of paintings and sculptures!

A strong family connection for my sister and myself. Our Grandfather was Lord Mayor in 1931 but I had never visited before.
The tour was first class and left me very humbled and proud.
This is very much a working building as well as being the residence of the Lord Mayor.
It is a very beautiful building and the interior is stunning.
Well worth booking a tour on line.
Tuesdays at 1400 and you don’t have to be in a large group.

Built in the Palladian style between 1739 and 1752 the Mansion House is the ceremonial home of the Lord Mayor of London who holds office for but one year and is chosen from the ranks of city merchants, traders, bankers, and occasionally even lawyers. It was constructed so as to avoid the practice of the various livery companies taking turns to lodge the Lord Mayor in their own halls. The Mayor did not get hid separate entrance until 1845. It housed the City of London Magistrates’ Court (whose ushers wear unique costumes to this day) to the building next door in 1999. It is home to an impressive collection of Dutch and Flemish seventeenth century paintings donated by Harold Samuel in the 1920s. It hosts various banquets at which speeches are given by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Foreign Secretary and Prime Minister respectively. I was fortunate enough to view the art collection attending a reception and concert celebrating the Royal College of Organists.

This is one of those buildings that when you get inside show what is really behind those walls. It is beautiful and there are some very intersting and decorative rooms to visit. Wait for the next Open House 2020 to visit and book in advance.

I went here as part of my London Open House weekend itinerary. I made sure I went online at the appointed day and time and managed to get a sought after ticket for Saturday. As I arrived, there were lots of people queuing. People with tickets were asked to come forward and entered first - then lots of people without tickets were also allowed in, so the group was very big. Seems little point in ticketing if this is going to take place. The guide was very good and entertaining and helped bring alive the history of the place - the building and it's people. It's very beautiful inside. The tour was a shortened version of the one that is available generally, this being with a charge. On Open House day, it's free.

Mansion House in the City of London is the official residence of the Lord Mayor of London (currently Sadiq Khan).

It is a beautiful building on the junction of Threadneedle Street, Cornhill, Mansion House a Street etc.

Thoroughly recommend seeing this.

Pleased that you took the time to post about The Mansion House, I agree it is a beautiful building, so thank you. It is not the home of Sadiq Khan as he is the 4th Mayor of London, rather than the 691st Lord Mayor of the City of London.
