Quartier: Mayfair

It's a beautiful Catholic church. During my visit they had paintings that struck me: Mother Mary and the Last Supper. It is also located next to a park very pleasant to walk. Admission is free.

This little church is charming. It has incredible art and the atmosphere is soothing. One of the most incredible pieces is of Jesus as a homeless man lying on a bench. It's a LGBTQ+ friendly church and tucked away in a charming little park.

Within twenty years of Catholic emancipation in 1829, Farm Street Church opened its doors in 1849 as the Jesuits’ flagship London church. It is an amazing achievement and gives an impression that it has been there for centuries.
Well worth a visit if you are passing.

This church is around the corner from my hotel and I’m so lucky it is. I went to the 8am Christmas mass and it was so lovely. The decorations are just beautiful but the highlight was the sermon which I truly enjoyed. I previously went to the cathedral when visiting London but this was much much better. Next time I’m in London, even if not close by, this would be my choice for mass.

Holiday Time at a Catholic Church in Mayfair
We are usually in London only in April-May, and October-November, but were visiting in December, immediately after Christmas, on a leisure trip. As per usual, we were staying in Mayfair, as we have done on all but one of 50+ trips, so walked over to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, between Mount and Farm Streets, in the heart of Mayfair, for Mass.
On our first trip to London (almost always on business), my wife discovered the Church of the Immaculate Conception, often referred to as the Mount Street Church, and has been a regular, ever since. When the congregation asks for “visitor” to raise their hand, they won’t let her, as they maintain that she is more of a regular parishioner, than many on the Parish rolls. She attends Mass there 3-4 times a year, and has done Easter services twice in the past too. This was just after Christmas, so the Holiday decorations were still up, and lovely to behold. Since our last visit, not that long ago, there was a new picture adorning the exterior wall, which was magnificent.
On this morning, we spent a few minutes in the adjacent Mount Street Gardens, before entering the church. Though I am not a frequent attendee, not being Catholic, I was still greeted as a member of the congregation - because I was with my wife.
The church is lovely, on both the outside, and within, but the interior is a bit Spartan, compared to some other Catholic churches in Europe. Still, lovely to behold, in its simplicity, and especially with the Holiday decorations still in place.
Though we were there for Mass (so right at one hour), I would advise allowing at least half that, to tour the church, and a bit more, to reflect on life, in the tranquility of the Mount Street Gardens, right outside of the rear doors to the church. If one approaches the front, on Mount Street, they should definitely explore the rear of the chapel, as it has a much different feeling, in the tranquil gardens.

While staying at the Grosvenor House, we wanted to go to Sunday Mass.We were very fortunate that there was a 5:30pm Sunday service here. Locals call this the Farm Street Church. Our cabbie dropped us off at a very non descriptive entrance. Once we walked inside, we were awed by the architecture.
The stonemasonry and the decor of this outrageously beautiful. The service was very warm and allowed for contemplation. The regular parishioners were very friendly.
We exited the church opposite of where we entered and found a lovely courtyard and a beautiful little park.
Well worth a visit even if you don't stay for services.

A Lovely Catholic Church in Mayfair
We’ve been going to London several times per year, for the last 20 years, and always staying in Mayfair. Very early on, my wife discovered the Church of the Immaculate Conception, between Mount and Farm Streets, in the heart of Mayfair. This church has been so convenient for her, that I cannot recall a trip, when she did not attend Mass there. Now, they think that she’s a member of the congregation, though she only attends services maybe 3-4 times per year.
On this September trip (one of the few, not for business), we both attended Mass at the Church of the Immaculate Conception - probably better known as “The Farm Street Church.”
Though I am not Roman Catholic, I can fully understand why my wife likes this church so very much - it’s small, almost intimate, and in a lovely setting.
We entered from the Mount St side (there is an entrance on the Farm St side, as well), after a stroll in the Mount St Gardens, adjacent to the church. For me, the Mount St side is the better, but just because of the tranquil gardens - right into the chapel. However, from an architectural point, the entrance/facade on Farm St, is more significant.
Opened in 1849, this Gothic Revival structure has withstood the test of time, and also the bombings of London, during WWII. Now, it looks more French, than English, but some sources state that the architectural design was copied from a similar Roman Catholic church in Beauvais.
I found the chapel to be lovely, and though not a grand cathedral, still spacious, and with the Autumn sunlight coming through the stained glass windows, beautiful.
Because I was there for Mass, I did not photograph the interior spaces, but as we are in Mayfair so often, have plans to return. For Mass, our visit was an hour, with maybe 30 minutes in the adjacent Gardens, and to see the church exterior from both sides, and then the interior, I would suggest 2 hours - taking in those gardens, as well.

Recently been to the Church of the Immaculate Conception at the Farm Street in Central London and it was a beautiful spiritual experience. The gothic architecture and the history of the Church is beautiful and well preserved. Not to be missed in the absolutely stunning painting of the Last Supper of the Lord - absolutely mersmerizing and awesome.

Farm Street church is definitely worth having a look at, it has some amazing stonemasonry work and stain-glass windows, but the" Piece de resistence" for me was the Gold altar.

This Church was built following the Catholic emancipation act in 1829 (this lifted restrictions on Catholic workship - wikipedia-it for more details!). The Church was constructed in the 1840s and has a Gothic revival style and has an extremely opulent interior. It is most noted for it's golden high alter designed by Pugin. Pugin went onto work on the interiors of the Houses of Parliament.
The Church seems to fit snugly into it's surroundings as neatly as a tetris piece. The small entrances at the front and rear disguise a sizeable space. In addition to the high alter it was interesting to note the statue of Thomas Moore, leaning on his instrument of martyrdom, like a workman holding a shovel.
This is where the well-healed of Mayfair come to worship on a Sunday.
