Lovely long walk. Hard work but worth the view. Very muddy and slippery on our visit so be sure to wear suits or shoes. Highly recommend.

An excellent adventure with fabulous views from the top. Lovely woods as you rise to the top. You do not need to be super fit, but probably not if you are infirm. The pub at the bottom does great food for your treat afterwords. A mini Alp in Teeside

One of the best views in the north east. It's not a difficult walk so you can take your children along too, just keep them away from the cliff edge as there are no barriers. I enjoyed the walk with a friend and we both had a great time exploring more of the area as well as enjoying the panoramic views. Car parking is only £2 for two hours or £4.80 all day. You can get to the top in less than 30 minutes however, but the money goes to the National Trust so it won't go to waste. Take a flask of tea and some sandwiches (or cakes) for when you reach the top!

Lovely walk where you can take a number of different gradients up. From the top the views are fabulous on a lovely day. Dogs welcome and there are some good areas where they can be off lead. Car park can get busy! We then went to Great Ayton and picked up some fab home made pies from the butcher. Best ever!

Lovely walk. Parked in the public car park at the bottom. Payment by card or phone. We followed the path up to a gate. You can either go straight on ( the hard route) or go to the right which takes you up a more gentle route. ( still hard though) Had a lovely time. Spectacular view from the top.

We put a recommended trip time of 2-3 hours, but it can be done in less time. We parked in the free car park, which is the first one as you drive in from Guisborough. There is a pay and display car park with toilets the other side of Newton Under Roseberry. Take water and a snack bar or two with you, as it's quite a steep trek up to the top. Well, it was for us, as we hadn't done anything like it for many years! It was an extremely hot day, and we would suggest going early, so you're coming down when the day heats up. It was a fantastic climb, and we met a guy on his way down who told us he did the hike up in twenty minutes, made us feel quite unfit as it had taken us nearly half an hour to get about halfway! But, it really doesn't matter how long it takes you, as it is well worth the hike. The views are stunning and the breeze at the top on a hot day very welcome. Once we got back to the car park, our success at Roseberry Topping spurred us on to Wain Rocks, which is another story......

Roseberry Topping is a very distinctive hill which can be seen from miles around and thus has great views from the top. The National Trust have paved various assents to try and reduce erosion so visitors are asked to stick to the paved pathways. The distinctive shape results from a mining collapse long ago. There are many ways to approach, the nearest is from the car park in Newton under Roseberry but alternatives are to start at Gribdale Gate or even from Great Ayton, the latter is beautiful when the bluebells are in bloom.

Had great fun with friends, definitely take some water with you and little snacks. We recommend going early morning (9 am) before the midnight sun. Take some money/bank card to pay for parking and there's a free toilet you can use prior to taking off on your hike. There is also a parked ice cream van sometimes which also sells drinks. Make sure you take some comfortable shoes for walking

We parked in small carpark in Great Ayton for free, then walked back up the road for a couple of minutes before walking through an iron gate into some trees. This route leads to Cliff Ridge Wood through a few fields and wooded areas and is an interesting route - but is not recommended at this time of year! and was just a muddy boggy mess! We will try again in a month or 2 once it is drier.

From Cliff Ridge Wood we turned left and walked through Newton Wood and towards Roseberry Topping. We walked all the way through the woods to the top of the path leading to Roseberry Topping carpark, hoping to see some snowdrops. But in early March we were either too early or too late, or they have not flowered this year? Anyways, all we saw was lots and lots of wild garlic leaves, so soon they will be flowering.

Walking in the woods we were nicely sheltered from the wind but the paths were very muddy - especially getting to Cliff Ridge Woods.

We recommend visiting the picture frame for fun photos with Roseberry in the distance.

We did not climb Roseberry Topping this time, but have hundreds of times in the past and still manage to find new routes. My stepmum (who is 67) can climb up to the top, so you certainly can! :-)

After our walk we wandered into Great Ayton to look at the waterfall, a lot of water at this time of year so quite a sight. We look forward to returning to the woods again soon when the weather is a little drier!
