We stopped here for a drink after lunch. Again, it was busy, but we managed to get a table. Staff were great, drinks were reasonably priced too! Lovely central location

Hotel room was very spacious and clean, but it could do with a bit DIY, especially the bathroom although the room had everything we needed and plenty of towels, toiletries and condiments.
Shortly after booking, I received an email forewarning us of potential noise as the pub has live music on on a Friday and Saturday night and the pub backs on to Vudu nightclub. When we arrived, we were immediately told of this and we were offered ear plugs which we accepted. However, they were not needed.
Our room faced the back of the nightclub and when we arrived back to the hotel room at 1am, we could here a little bit of noise from the nightclub but it did not prevent us from sleeping well. I did wake up during the night and heard what I thought was a generator (my partner thinks this was a boiler) but again, the noise was was nothing major and sounded like the wind!
Overall, great staff, great pub and hotel, great price, great Roman museum below (£3.50 each) and great location. We would definitely stay again.

Never mind the pub, the museum is where its AT! Fab little archaeology site with a funny dress up corner near the exit. The staff member on duty was super knowledgeable on local Roman history - thanks for answering our questions! The pub above it does a good Amstel. Cheers!

When we arrived at the The Roman , we were greeted by a pleasant lady behind the bar. We had a quick drink and was shown to our room. The room itself was nice although the glasses on the sink in the bathroom were dirty. We unpacked and went exploring the beautiful city of York. On our return we heard the dreaded sound on the generator that was being used by the kebab van thats parked out the front. We hoped it wouldn't stay for long but wrong were we. 4 flipping am before it packed up and left. And to make thing 100% worse the mattress on the bed was just awful. Felt every spring in the mattress. All in all a really terrible night's stay.

Central location and friendly staff. Bedroom windows are very thinly glazed which is understandable as an old building. However, with the rooms facing the street it’s incredibly noisy especially when a kebab truck is there till 4am with an incredibly loud generator. Impossible to sleep! Wouldn’t stay again unfortunately.

Nice and central location. Live music on . Which wasn’t so good for us as very loud up in the room . Room was ok. Swapped a mattress from one bed to another as could feel the springs with my hand never mind trying to sleep on it. Towel rail hanging off. Shower pipe needed replacing metal was disgusting and come away from fixture. Inside draws stained and dirt in them. Bathroom very tiny to get into. Friend had marks on her sheet . Had to use the extension plug which thought bit dangerous . Couldn’t get my charger into the other socket just wouldn’t go in. It was quiter in the pub toilets than are room upstairs when the music was on .

The gent that greeted us at the front of the museum had incredible knowledge regarding the actual bath & it's history. It is a quick walk round but definitely good for history buffs.
The museum links back round to a set of sets which leads back up into the pub.
We were kinda hoping for a few local ales in this pub but there was only 1 or 2.
We felt this was a shame but not an issue.

The Roman bath pub, one of the most friendly places I’ve stayed in. Went for York races, stayed three nights. Good value for money. A bit noisy on Friday as it’s a bustling area. But would definitely stay again. Great food too.

The place was smelly and moldy with little upkeep. The tour was low on history and really not recommended

I am very interested in Roman history and this is one of the few places you can actually go down to the level the Romans actually lived at.
To actually see the remains of the Roman legionary Bath House is amazing and the curator is very knowledgeable.

Sincere apologies for the delay in responding. I have just got back from a long spell in hospital. There is parking in York, but not close to the Roman Bath. I would recommend that you use the city's excellent Park & Ride service. I'm sorry if this response is too late for you.

Not very long to be honest. 20 mins if you are really into it. It's not a big site but the man there is good value to talk to.

Hi. Any details of how we can access the tour run by the Canadian PhD student Brad ?

I have trained several assistant curators from the University of York who have learned my tour and added their own special knowledge and energy to it, but if you really want to join one of mine I am there most Sundays working on my tablet applying to academic positions. :)
Best,
Dr Brad Kirkland
