Twin towers façade. Tall red brick building. First catholic cathedral built after the reformation. Famous Pugin design and beautiful stain glass windows.

Pugin designed, it is a beautiful place of Catholic worship. Had first vistas of it after alighting from the tram, from where superlative perspectives of it can be seen.
Largely finished in the early 1840s, it received Cathedral status in 1852. Fascinating to discover that it was one of the first Catholic churches constructed after the Reformation in the 1500s.
After admiring the fine exterior, stepping inside was revelatory. A marvellous vista is along the central aisle with gorgeous columns and arches. An inspiring altar area has ornate embellishments and a background of stained glass, of which there is a profusion throughout.
A magnificent organ is in the traditional elevated placement. Stations of the Cross powerfully relate the account of Christ’s suffering for humanity.

My twin brother Stephen and I were heading to The Gunmaker Quarter, we were in fact heading to Indian Brewing Company ( Snowhill ) to enjoy some craft beers and a meal and we passed this most beautiful of churches .
Constructed between 1839 - 1841 from designs from architect Augustus Welby Pugin and dedicated to Saint Chad Of Mercia ,its a fantastic Grade II Listed building.
The foundation stone was laid on October 1839 and consecrated on 21st June 1841 ,the 16th Earl Of Shrewsbury John Talbot was a major benefactor of the cathedral, the church received cathedral status in 1850 by Pope Pius IX ,its located in the Gunmakers Quarter , during world war two with its location in The Gunmaker Quarter this area became a target for the German airforce, an incendiary bomb crashed through the roof and hit some water pipes which burst and extinguished the fire ,an act of God perhaps , to celebrate this fortunate act on the transept ceiling are the words DEO GRATIAS 22 NOV 1940 ( thank be to God) .
I loved the look of this church, its twin spires, its brick facades ,the beautiful gardens housing the church, its a really grand piece of architecture, very photogenic, makes for some great photographic opportunities and is easy to locate along St Chads Queensway, most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

Loving all things Pugin, we visited Birmingham with the sole purpose of visiting St Chad's. The cathedral was built by George Myers (‘Pugin’s Builder’) and the original internal decorations and fittings were made by craftsmen who reintroduced medieval techniques of production. One of the finest neo-gothic church buildings in England, opened in 1841. Much of the work is by Hardman & Co. It contains some splendid 19th century stained glass made by Hardmans, a 16th century Flemish pulpit, and a late medieval statue of the Virgin Mary, as well as one of the largest new manual organs in the UK, built by Walkers & Co in 1993.
Wonderful Minton floor tiles, gorgeous ceiling, fabulous wall decorations. As soon as you step inside you'll be in awe. Because many fittings were removed in the 1960s and some redecoration was undertaken, its appearance today is a said to be a shadow of how it was originally conceived by Pugin, but its enduring beauty is testament to the skill of its original designers. Closed at this point in time due to the coronavirus, check their website for updates.

La catedral reemplazó una iglesia más pequeña dedicada a St.Austin, construida en el mismo sitio en 1808. Es una de los primeras cuatro iglesias católicas construidas después de la Reforma Anglicana y una de las cuatro basílicas menores en Inglaterra. Fue construida a instancias del Obispo Thomas Walsh y diseñada por Augustus Welby Pugin, uno de los arquitectos góticos más famosos de Inglaterra, convertido al catolicismo en 1835 que pasó la mayor parte del resto de su vida laboral diseñando iglesias católicas, sus accesorios y vestimentas. La primera piedra se colocó en octubre de 1839 y se consagró el 21 de junio de 1841. Fue elevada a rango de catedral en 1852. El proyecto recibió generosas donaciones de John Talbot, último conde católico de Shrewsbury.
La catedral estaba situada en el barrio Gunmakers Quarter de Birmingham. Debido al sitio angosto y la necesidad de construir en ladrillo en lugar de piedra, Pugin estaba restringido en el estilo y las proporciones. Está construido al estilo de una iglesia de pasillo de ladrillo o "hallenkirke", similar a la Catedral de Munich y tiene un westwerk con agujas estrechas. 這教堂在Snow Hill 火車站旁，剛巧在今次居住的假日酒店旁邊。小小的教堂建於1841年，乃英國16世紀宗教改革脱離羅馬教會後首建的羅馬天主教堂，與英國大笨鐘同一建築師，值得參觀

This building is absolutely beautiful. The ceiling has an amazing design on it and the stained glass around the building is lovely. Definitely worth a visit.

What a fabulous Cathedral - maybe I am biased as I did get married there way way back in 1971. To this day it remains a beautiful Cathedral and one well worth visiting. It has amazing stained glass windows which are things of immense beauty. There are severa smaller altars which are rather quaint. The detail is truly wonderful. The confessional boxes are intricate and one wonders how imaginative the workers were who spent time on them with limited tools in by gone past. Only draw back is the very limited parking.

Очень стильный собор в неоготическом стиле немного странной формы, которая была вызвана сложным участком под стройку.Построен собор Святого Чеда в 1841 году и это первый католический кафедральный собор, построенный в Британии после Реформации 16 века. Спроектировал его архитектор Огастес Пьюджин, именно он создал лондонскую башню Биг-Бен и внутреннее оформление Вестминстерского дворца. С момента постройки здание мало меняли, только пристраивали внешние часовни.Одно из моих любимых зданий в Бирмингеме,очень понравились витражи и старинные скульптуры в интерьере, есть более древние предметы, чем сам собор.Вход бесплатный, рекомендую посетить
