On trip advisor this property looks open. Its very misleading. Lots of visitors are saying the same. We all thought it was open. When you go into link on website it says down. Do we know when and why this amazing bit of Conwy history closed? It's a shame not just for Nat Trust members but for everyone who wants to see one of the oldest houses in Wales.

Visited this delightfully historic building, just before the National Trust closed everything down because of Covid-19. This is only a small site, situated in the centre of the town, occupying 2 floors, with the old cellar now used by the National Trust as their shop and entrance. It was midweek, the town was v quiet, and my wife & myself were the only people in the building, which was very pleasing, as it gave us more time to take in what is a most interesting structure, even better, we were accompanied by the site manager,Andy, who very helpfully gave us much info on the place and was only too happy to answer our many questions. The building was formerly a Medieval Merchants house built in the 15thC, initially with only a cellar and one floor, with another floor (The Great Loft), added some time later. Scientific study of the beams has confirmed the property as one of the oldest remaining houses in the whole of Wales. Later on the property became a Temperance Hotel, and in fact at one time was used as a meeting place for Suffragettes and a bedroom is displayed as it would have looked at that time. Much of the furnishings come from a myriad of old properties within Wales, not from the buildings roots, but still give a good feel about the place. As I reported earlier, you can get round in less than 45 minutes, but certainly if you are historically minded an excellent way to capture the feel of times gone by. Recommended

I enjoyed our visit but there are really only a couple of rooms to see. The interest is in what it was rather than what is there now

Great 600 years+ of history in this small building, brought to life by a very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable guide called Holly. It doesn't take long to walk around the 2 floors above the shop, approx 40 mins. There are obviously 2 flights of stairs to negotiate if you have any disabilities.
Holly also recommended a local cafe called The Old Bookshop which was really lovely.

I can't give this property 5 stars as it's simply just too small to warrant a raving review. It is however, very well looked after and the guides are very helpful and informative. What you get is essentially the loft of a medieval house which consists of approx four rooms. These have been furnished to some degree and maintain a nice ambience.
My main grumble is that for some reason the NT are pushing a feminist agenda this season, so almost every property you visit, you get this agenda rammed down your throat. Here is no exception, where one of the rooms is decked out as the room of a Suffragette. It wasn't explained if this house was used by the Suffragettes, I very much doubt it, so it had no place being in the hall.
The entire visit lasted 10 mins tops, so it's worth a shot if you want to kill a short time in Conwy.

A very helpful guide helped to make the most of a modestly sized attraction. There are some older and newer parts of the house which has been lived in until surprisingly recently

This is a very small National Trust property but very interesting. You enter through a shop and there is someone to show you upstairs to the property. There are no tour guides as such-you are on your own here. The rooms are set out in various centuries covering the ownership of the property over time. You won’t need more than half an hour here

Right on the main street. Quaint house which is the oldest one still standing. Staff were very friendly and answered all questions fully.
Not a huge amount to see but definitely worth visiting if you ate visiting the town
Just watch your head as plenty of opportunities to smash it if you are tall!

Fascinating to see the way people actually lived in the 1500’s. The written information was very detailed and the staff was happy to answer questions.

Popped in here using our National Trust membership. Not the biggest place you will ever visit but very interesting. Staff very knowledgeable and only too happy to answer questions. Can be easily missed so take time to seek it out. Not many of these houses left so make sure you visit.
