The Finnieston Crane is a giant cantilever crane, on the north side of the River Clyde, a short walk from the SECC, near the west end of Glasgow. This crane is one of four on the River Clyde and one of eleven remaining in the world. The crane is no longer in use, but stands as a proud testament to Glasgow’s shipping heritage and engineering prowess.

This crane was used in Tandem with another to lift heavy loads onto the ships for delivery around the World.
I used to watch Boiler Drums being taken from Babcock and Wilcox in Renfrew that showed a weight on the side of 250 tons. The roads had to have heavy metal plates laid to get round corners. The locals used to laugh at the sign on the side of 250 tons as this was the road limit but many were well over this weight.
Many of the drums were being taken to South Africa and India.
Locomotives for South Africa were also loaded here and they were about 1.5 times the size and weight of these used in the UK. One can be seen in the new transport museum.

It was really quite bad, horrible place, very ugly as well.
I hope to never again have the supreme misfortune of coming across such a deplorable, detestable, disgusting and generally despairing building in my entire life.
Anyone who says otherwise is just completely wrong and should honestly reconsider their own life choices.

A short hop out from the city centre, near the SSE arena is one of Glasgow’s iconic landmarks, well worth a walk. That whole area is near the science centre, Radisson Red hotel roof bar, definitely a great place to take in the great view. The walk along the Clyde back into town is great, as well as the walk further along to the transport museum.

How do you even start!?! This was such a unique spiritual and emotional experience for myself. I've been travelling Europe for the past 5 months now and WOWEE! I've seen small cranes, medium cranes, big cranes and that big pointy thingy in Paris ... but this by far takes the cake as a European landmark. I am a 25 year old man and I was brought to nothing but tears I wept in front of the Finnieston Crane and the Glasgow public for a few hours. For fellow Crane enthusiasts like myself, this is our Woodstock. Only disappointment was the fencing around the '8th man-made wonder of the world' as I'd call it. Other than that, it was a bit of an eye sore and I kind of got over it after a few hours.

Well worth the walk out to see this icon of engineering heritage. There wasn't really an easy way to get to it by public transport without a walk, but it's also nice to stroll along the Clyde on a Spring morning, so I would recommend.

Nothing but a quality landmark, i waited 4 and a half years to finally tick this behemoth off my bucket list, and boy, was it worth it.
The atmosphere this spectical produced was nothing short of euphoric.
I'm glad we went here in the Christmas holidays because the light work easily rivalled the less impressive leaning pizza tower or whatever they call that wonky building.
MUST SEE!!

It is a…. Crane. We happened to be staying in a hotel, with a view from the hotel room onto it. So we didn't visit it, for the sake of tradition. But it is very nice/fun, but not something you should travel for, then you will probably be disappointed.

Regardless of its historic value, this crane is an eyesore, that should've been moved to a more open area.
