I was asked by a poor old woman on the train next to me if the train we were on (Heuston-Cork) if it stopped in Ballybrophy. She had been told by numerous staff in Dublin Heuston that it 100% stopped in ballybrophy and was left in an absolute panic when she saw that we had gone to Thurles.
As it’s a Sunday 7pm there are no other trains for her to get to get her to her destination. I helped her figure out her next steps with the help of a kind worker on the train but the staff in Heuston were brutal. Poor old woman, traveling alone, left on the wrong train after asking for assurance that she was on the right one. The staff need to be more aware of what train serves where.

We were waiting for our train this evening for an hour and it was very comfortable and safe. Someone was playing beautiful music on a piano that is in the station. The station was busy but great signage here and plenty of places to eat. Luas/tram is just outside the entrance- so convenient

One of the main stations but still small with about 7 platforms. Good information and signage. Not much else nearby but clean and safe. Busy at times

Great selection of gluten free sandwiches with decent fillings as part of the meal deal or by themselves. You won't find them anywhere else in station!

There are two main stations in Dublin. Connolly station has trains running down the East coast of the island and to Northern Ireland and to Sligo. The rest of the trains run from Heuston station which is on the edge of the city centre close to the River Liffey.
The station can be reached by using the red tram line and there are direct trams from Connolly to Heuston and onwards. The trams are pretty good however every tram I travelled on was full so if you have lots of luggage this may not be the best form of transport for you.
The station has a beautiful grand front and the architecture has been kept pretty much as when it was first built. Trams stop right outside the front of the station so it is pretty good for getting to.
In the station there are places you can get snacks and drinks ready for your journey and off to the side is the ticket office where you can get served by a human being and there are also machines to use to purchase your tickets. You can pay by cash or card at these.
To gain access to the platforms you have to show your ticket and the gates for trains normally shut about a minute before departure. On the train I travelled on there was an announcement to say that the train would be leaving shortly so to get off if not intending to travel.
The trains running from this station are all quite modern and the train I travelled on had free wifi and charging points. It was also clean.
There are trains from here to Kildare, Cork, Galway and many other destinations.

If I’m going to Galway, Cork. I’ll go by train. It’s a lovely station with coffee shops and places to eat. They have a board which all the departures to each destination and what platform number to go to. It’s very easy to get to only a few mins on the Luas or bus from the city centre.

This is a nice well laid out station. Trains to the Weser, southwest & south depart from here. There is a large screen displaying departure times and stations served along the train journey to its destination.
There are plenty of coffee shops there and a well stocked newsagents ( Easons ). Something I enjoy here is the ‘free to use’ piano. There really is some wonderful artists in Ireland as it’s relaxing to just listen to some of the pianists doing their ‘thing’ to pass the time.
The staff in general are very helpful. Some of the platforms can be a long walk from the concourse, but I put that down to the stations popularity. One added bonus is the Luas which is almost directly opposite the main entrance, and has a very good service to central Dublin. The busses also are just outside the main entrance. There is also a well frequented taxi rank.
Overall a very pleasant experience.

I am a bus driver and I was finished at Heuston this evening. I had a call of nature. So I decided to use the facility's. To say I was shocked 😲 at the men's Toilets in the station. There was tissues well at least I hoped they were left on the floor by the uranls. The smell was horrible 😫 I almost got sick. The last time I smelt something as bad as what was in the Toilets was when I was on a farm. How often do the toilets get cleaned because the staff aren't doing a good job at all. I'd rather piss in a bottle then use the toilets in that station.

Doesn't have the beauty of Liege or Valencia, nor the abundance of shops and restaurants like cologne, but it's pretty good station serving the west and south west. The trains run mostly on time, the staff are friendly.

Are there Heuston Station lockers in which we can store our luggage while we explore Dublin for a few hours before returning to the station to catch our train to Killarney?
