Nice to see a bigger beer manufacturer with a craft beer mind. Too bad the guide didn’t offer the nerdiest level of knowledge.

We reached out to the brewery a bit late, to request to be added to one of their tours. They were able to get us in on a Thursday - the day after we landed in Munich.
The tour organizers provided a lot of great detail about how to reach the brewery, noting that it's a 30-minute walk from the nearest train station to the brewery itself, which is in a semi-secluded part of town.
Our group was small that day, only one other couple and a family of five. Our guide, Tancredi, was very pro-Hofbrau (which you'd expect), and very anti-any other German brewery, which was kind of disappointing. I mean, poo-poo'ing a brewery we'd just said we're fans of probably isn't a good idea, but I get he wanted to get his brand across.
The tour itself was pretty normal. We got to see the process and the machines and the ingredients in store rooms. It's a working brewery, so it was loud both inside and outside. The strange thing is, Tancredi chose to forgo the headphones for the tour, since we were small, but I think the headphones would have come in very handy. I gave up trying to crowd around him for a chance to hear what he was saying about 15 minutes in, and focused on taking pictures. Mostly pictures of my husband being totally engrossed by the tour, haha.
We were with Tancredi for almost 2 hours, and got one small pour of a brew right from the source. And we didn't even get to keep the glass!
The tour was 10 Euro per person, and must be paid in cash at the start of the tour. You're required to sign in in the lobby, and wear both a reflective vest and eye protection throughout the tour.
It was interesting to visit a German brewery, but I doubt we'd go back on our next trip to Munich. The walk to and from the location was nice, though, so that was a bonus.

Gestern zum Obazda eine Scheibe Brot nachbestellt. Dafür für 1 Hausbrot 1 Euro bezahlt. Das ist schon heftig.
Aber wer gönnt sich ja sonst nix!?

The logo of the Hofbräu München brewery: HB - two letters, one crown.
An iconoc logo for a great tasting beer with steeped in tradition. Great brewery to experience the brewing process and the German tradion.
I had an awesome time at the Hofbräu München! Taxi was the way to go both coming and going. The main tour group was students over age 16 with one chaperone. In addition to myself there was an older German. Tour guide was awesome and translated key takeaways for me. I was able to taste an unfiltered, non-pasteurized and very cold beer from the lager tanks. Very tasty. This was an experience I will remember for a long time. To finish out my day I had a leisurely lunch at the Munich Hofbrauhaus (reviewed separately) to experience the beer, food, and atmosphere.
The tour takes between 60 and 90 minutes without the additional meal.
Advance registration for the brewery tour is required. No tours on a Friday; the weekend or holidays; no brewery tours in August due to vacation time; and the week before, during and in the week after the Oktoberfest.

Really interesting factory tour of where they make Hofbreuhaus beer. It's a lot of stainless steel tanks and pipes, but interesting to see. Got to see the brewing and bottling facilities, then sample some beer and sausages after. Got to taste some "young" beer before it's filtered. My engineering students loved the tour, although it would have been better if the factory was actually running at the time, so make sure they are producing before you go.
