Amazement!
A place I always like to go back to, but with great surprise we ordered, in addition to the coffees, 2 slices of different types of cakes, both of which had a dry, biscuity sponge cake! It looked old....booo...

Without taking anything away from the beauty of the place, we had an absolutely negative experience. We sat down at 9 and after ordering two cream croissants, a sacher and a pistachio croissant, the waiter returned saying that of what was ordered there was only one cream croissant. He invited us to get up and see what was left!!
To drink, we ordered a special coffee and 3 cappuccinos and they brought us 3 Trieste-style cappuccinos, basically lattes. Very long waiting times. Absolutely negative experience

After waiting outside for 15 minutes and no one serving us, we finally went inside. We wanted to sit at a table. The waiter told me to sit somewhere else because that would give him more space to walk past, even though there was a chair there. When we finally had the opportunity to eat outside, we were served dry fritto misto. The fish was very dry and it looked like it was leftovers. When we told the waiter this, he reached for my plate and tried a piece and said, "Yes, that doesn't taste good." As a gesture of goodwill, we only had to pay for one portion, but our lunch was still not recommended. The atmosphere in the restaurant is very nice. The staff seemed overwhelmed.

It is the oldest café in Trieste and the environment maintains the charm of its centuries-old history. At the entrance there is a promising aquarium of live crustaceans.
Friendly welcome and good service. Excellent tasting of lobster paccheri and baked sea bass. Unfortunately we had to send the octopus salad back to the kitchen as it had an unappealing smell and it was promptly replaced.
Medium-high prices related to the type of venue.

I went with my wife to this splendid historic café in Trieste.
We stopped for breakfast tasting the Peratoner coffee, a mix of hazelnuts with a ton of whipped cream, a bit nauseating for my tastes and brioche filled with chocolate; free water.
Given the very beautiful place we decided to book dinner; the seafood appetizer was good and the spaghetti with clams and bottarga were spectacular. Excellent value for money.

Easily the worst restaurant in Trieste, unfortunately. The historic local suffers from its current management, which has destroyed a longstanding reputation. Case in point: dinner at the Christmas holidays with friends, menù di natale with antipasto, primo and secondo, dessert. All look good, nice wine list, welcome glass of bollicine. We are seated, wait... and then they come with the second course, looking at us like we've mistaken because we haven't even been offered water. Away that goes, the server comes and apologizes (life happens, no big deal)... and the antipasti arrive. Mediocre, but oké... and then the secondi return! The same ones!! Of course, much explanation and they are taken away, and we wait 45-50 minutes for the primi. Ordering wine is interesting, as none (NONE!) of those on the list are available... so why have the list??? None are very interesting anyway, and all can be had a mid-level enoteche anywhere. When they do return with the primi (which are now sort of hard cooked, and are rather bland to boot), they then grunt a "sorry" and come back with the same secondi that have been clearly sitting around. Follow it on with stale panettone prettied up with a type of canned sauce, which all take one bite of and leave. Two of us are sick later, probably from bad food left to spoil as they can't organize themselves. And their attempt at making amends? Disgusting, hyper-sugared "limoncello" ... The current management may get away with this for a while, but triestini are furbi and don't tolerate such dishonesty, nor should they have to when there are many other good options. I am only embarrassed that I reserved here when friends from out of the city were visiting for the holidays - never again, for any occasion!

I've always been to have a coffee or tea but this evening I went for dinner, I was lucky because the place wasn't crowded, the service was courteous and prompt, friendly, the sanpietro fish was excellent, the dessert was a surprise, the Friulian was excellent accompaniment and the price appropriate to the place... it is worth the visit for a quality experience

Unlike other less famous but more pretentious places, Caffè Tommaseo - a historic meeting place for patriots that has preserved the atmosphere without becoming its own museum - is a place where I would invite a friend to have an aperitif. The spritz was good, the staff were very kind, the appetizers served with the aperitif were plentiful. The bill is commensurate with the context: 12 euros for two spritzes, the right amount in a place like this.

Forget all the previous reviews, disregard any preconceived ideas, and just enjoy. The food, all of it, is great. Service is meticulous and professional. Did I say that all the food was great? I need to say it again: if you like quality ingredients, skilled preparation and elegant presentation, and most of all, wonderful taste, then this a place to visit before you die. The menu is divided between tradition and innovation, and, yes, they do both exceptionally well. The octopus (pictured) starter had our teen mesmerised and declare it one of the greatest eating experiences of his young foodie life. It is - I tasted it too, of course - and absolute masterpiece, itself worth the trip to Trieste .
Of course, we were gifted the most phenomenally light cod amuse bouche to begin with, and as a final flourish a selection of delicate and utterly delicious pralines.
I could go on raving about this place, but I’d rather just go again.
Of course, we were much too full to try all the fantastic decadent cakes and pastries, but then, of course, we’ll be back.

We stopped here to have cappuccino and pastries in an elegant old world coffee house. We ordered our drinks at the bar, chose our cakes, then the waiter brought everything to us at our nearby table. Trieste is known for its historic coffee houses and Caffe Tommaseo is one of the oldest still in operation.
