We bought some wine from this wine maker and enjoyed what we tasted. They are a professional operation and offer excellent wines at good prices.

When leaving Porto for a daytrip we asked the staff for advice of what to do and where to go? We got advised to try this small winery and visit their restaurant, and we are very grateful for that.

The food is absolute high class, and their wines includes both traditional wines, but the highlights were the non typical style wines made with local grape varieties. This winery produce top wines in small quantities and high quality.

We wanted to tour a vineyard in the Douro Valley and thought we could easily get in to places as it was off season in October. Our hotel owner called a few places and they all said they could not squeeze in 2 people for a tour and tasting. I also contacted a few and most of them were pretty snobby and informed us we needed a reservation and they were booked weeks or months in advance and adding 2 extra people was not possible. This vineyard and one other agreed to let us come on short notice. This is a small family owned vineyard that makes 11 different wines. We were attended by Tiago (sp?) who was extremely knowledgeable and friendly. We ended up tasting 9 out of their 11 wines (the Rose was sold out and they don’t sample the sparkling one). We really liked the reds and late harvest wines and bought 4 bottles to take home to the states. We enjoyed our private tour of 2 and recommend a tour and wine tasting at Aneto.

Wine farm beautifully located in the valley with breath-taking views down to the river. Be sure to try the Aneto "S" special addition wine. You will definitely be taking some home with you!

The Aneto tour was our best wine tasting experience of the Douro Valley. Instead of a mass group at one of the large staff run Quintas, this was just my wife and I being treated to an intimate tour by direct family members and partners, of their vineyard, wine cellar and family home. Hearing their story since starting Aneto in 2001 was inspiring and engaging. I felt like I wanted to help out!

The actual wine tasting was a lovely collecton of whites, reds and sweet wines expertly explained by Silvia. We learnt that the family only use traditional methods of foot treding of the grapes which allows the valuable grape juice to be extracted but avoids the undesired flavours being released from the stems. This leads to a higher quality tasting wine. Also it sounds like a lovely excuse to get the whole family together for an annual harvest party. Most large wine producers have abandoned the foot treding in the persuit of automation.

They have 14 hectares of grapes on two vineyards with one brother of the family being the overall wine making decision maker e.g. when to harvest the grapes, how long to leave-on the grapes for the sweet wines, etc.

Victor the boyfriend of one of the family's daughters recently started working on the vineyard and gardens. He personally showed us around their old family home describing how the next project is to update it and create a small number of boutique hotel style rooms. These sounded wonderful as the house overlooks the slopes of grapes as the trellises roll down to the river. We hope to return in 2 or 3 years and stay at the hotel when the works are complete.

Thank you Silvia and Victor for a wonderful holiday memory!

Our tour guide offered a last minute change to our schedule and told us a very small family quinta was on the last of their harvest, which was a little late this year. He contacted them and arranged for us to have a tour, tasting and participate in stomping grapes.

We arrived at this small quinta which did not look like much walking in, but we were happily surprised at the wonderful time we had. We were the only guests at the winery. Our guide introduced us to the owners who described the open fermentation method, showed us the two large vats that held the last grapes of the season. We were shown a place to change and then joined the three employees who were stomping grapes. We were clearly not experts at this but they showed us how they do it for production, three hours a day in each vat. Once we had our fill of stomping, our legs were hosed off and we changed back to our regular cloths.

We were then given a tour of the facility by the owner who spent a lot of time showing us each part of the facility, describing how the different types of wine are made and each variety they produce. We looked at the different aging methods and both old and new barrels etc. At the end of the tour the couple took us out to the terrace and showed us the magnificent view of their quinta and the different areas with different grapes. We talked varieties, their vineyard's 15 year history and their plans for the future.

We then had a tasting of two whites, four reds and two late harvest whites, which were similar to sauternes in flavor and character, but my wife liked these much better. This is also one of the few places that grows pinot noir in the region. I preferred their reserve red which was very bold in flavor. We purchased two cases of wine prior to departing.

It was the people and the uniqueness that made the visit. A very nice couple who were very open and answered questions and spent a lot of time with us. We are so glad we came here and not one of the large "grape stomping" locations.
