We visited here in July, after coming back from a night stay in Doncaster, & decided to visit a few English Heritage sites within close proximity, this being one of them.

Although it is mostly in ruins, you definitely get a sense of how grand in must of been years ago. I should imagine, if you’re able to, this place would be the perfect backdrop for a wedding ceremony or play/theatre production.

A beautiful peaceful place. Very informative and interesting to see where the individual rooms once were and the remains of the Abbey with the stream running through

A beautiful site in the care of English Heritage. Tucked away in a sheltered valley, it is well worth a visit. Access down a steep, single track lane paved with blocks of stone can be daunting, but don't worry - even a large recovery truck can get down there (and back) safely. Free parking 250m from the booking office / shop / purveyor of teas & coffees. Disabled parking available beside the entrance.

A wonderful example of medieval Cistercian abbey remains, including the gatehouse. For anyone with an interest in history, take a picnic, buy the guidebook, and stay all day.

The staff at the site are fantastic. My colleague's car broke down in the car park, and without mobile phone reception in the valley, arranging recovery would have been impossible without Niall's kindness and support. We were both extremely grateful.

A very pleasant visit. Wheelchair accessible and disabled parking in front of the abbey (turn left at the bottom of the cobbled track). No paths but cut grass down to the abbey. Sat near the stream in the sun listening to the sounds of the birds & water. Look out for stone mason marks. Worth a visit if in the area.

In a picturesque location, green field, lots of trees, stream running through it, the Abbey is a complete ruin. Just a few of the tall walls remain to give an image of how it would have been, massively impressive in its day. The walls and foundations of other buildings show how it would have been quite a large religious community.
Free parking immediately outside and £7.50 entry. Free with annual English Heritage or continuing CADW membership for us, or you could take photos from the public footpath running adjacent to the site but not enter

Roche abbey has well preserved grounds. There is limited signage on the property, however, there is a brochure at the entrance for 4- that outlines what your looking at.

I enjoyed seeing how the water ran through the property.

Roche abbey is located on a beautiful peaceful spot.

Firstly, the carpark was terrible. It’s down a really cobbly road that doesn’t have enough space for two cars at once, it isn’t sign posted and for first-time visitors it’s not clear where to go.
The site itself is very underwhelming; it is not worth the entry fee that they are charging when you get the same view from standing next to the gate. We are annual pass holders and still didn’t think it was worth visiting.
Overall, wouldn’t recommend.

This monastery gives you a good indication of the peace and quiet the Monks would experience in Medieval Monastic life.

As it is one of the lesser-known and visited Abbeys, it was quiet and peaceful. Set in a lovely spot, with a stream running through (with Medieval waterworks intact) this cistercian abbey had the remains of many Monastic buildings.

The remains aren't quite as well preserved as other abbeys, but they are in good order and give you an idea of the scale and layout of the site.

There is a small gift shop on-site with helpful and enthusiastic members of staff.

Only slight downside is the lack of information on the site itself - so you need to purchase a guidebook.
