A great forest tour through the Nature Trail, and different vegetation zones within the forest. Im doing an ecological research in the Arabuko Forest for a week now , 12-20 August 2024.
Arabuko Sokoke Forest in Kenya is a fascinating area for Eco-tourism and research due to its unique biodiversity and ecological importance. As one of the last remaining examples of coastal dryland forest in East Africa, it’s home to numerous endemic and threatened species.

The views were calming, I saw trees I have never seen in my life. I would recommend going in the late afternoon.

We had a super guide (Willy) who was great on mimicking bird calls. He had an expert eye and pointed out lots of tiny birds (really hard to see though) and we heard beautiful birdsong. He recounted lots of local fables and it was fascinating. We saw the disappearing tail of an elephant shrew (they move so fast) and some of the tiny local deer. Can’t recall the name, Suni ??? Willy was passionate about conservation and he had lots of interesting facts to give us.

I really loved Arabuko Sokoke forest, we went there for bird watching and were not disappointed, we saw a number of rare birds that can be found almost nowhere else, we got a local guide to assist us and he was very good.
The forest is really beautiful with 3 distinct forest types, there is also a chance to see the Golden Rumped Elephant shrew, endemic to these types of Forest areas.
If you are a keen birder or just enjoy the Natural world the a visit to Arabuko is a must.

Learned about the conservation efforts by the community. Butterfly farming and bee farming. We got an opportunity to see the birds that only exist in that forest.
As you leave the forest make a point to purchase their honey at Gede.

After an interesting journey by local bus (Be sure to go to the right entrance!), we were give a private walking tour around the forest. The guide was fantastic showing us plenty of local wildlife, including the golden-rumped elephant shrew, baboons and plenty of birds. A truely fantastic experience all round! Recommend to go early in the morning or in the late evening to increase your chances of spotting these animals!

The nice thing about this place is that you can drive to a certain spot, then get out of the car and walk. It's home to quite some endemic birds. With a good guide you get to see a lot of different animals and birds. We had amazing views of the Sokoke Wood-Owls, sleeping away the hottest part of the day. We had just 2 half days there - not enough to go justice to this beautiful park.

how do we pay for arabuka? local tourist... and are you open on sundays?
Rédigé le 9 janvier 2018
You can find good information about visiting the forest on the Kenya Forest Service website, just google Arabuko-Sokoke. Entry tickets are purchased at the entry gate via Mpesa. Guides are available at the entry gate as well and their fees are paid at the same time. The forest is open Sundays.

Jambo everybody,
I will be in Watamu next September and I have planned a visit to Arabuko Sokoke forest. Since it is not a sponsorized tour, I need more information about how to organize the trip.
I need to know if I have to contact a guide in Watamu, or I can find guides at the entrance. Can the guides speak Italian, for my wife can not speak English? Is it easy to get there by taxi from Watamu? How much is the entrance ticket?
Thank you for all information you can give me.
