Couldn’t wait to visit here as I had seen all the amazing cakes on offer…first stop after arriving even before the Bird Observatory where we were staying had cake and coffee and bought extra cake for following day (they weren’t open for the remainder of our visit 😩).
The cakes didn’t disappoint wonderful strawberry iced cake and the wonderful views of Seaweed eating sheep just topped it off….thank you 🙏

I’m not usually one to be negative but the staff in the restaurant could do with some lessons in civility and customer service. After walking the length of North Ronaldsay on a Sunday afternoon. On arriving we were hoping for a light lunch but all the three inside tables were taken. We were totally blanked by the lady member of staff and eventually an Englishman said ‘ we’re fully booked and there’s other waiting’ in a tone which clearly meant go away. We overheard the woman telling a customer with children that they didn’t serve sandwiches ( only over priced burgers ) and generally gave the impression that customers were a nuisance.

We took the guided tour of the Lighthouse ( with June ) , and then met with Billy Muir who has been a keeper at the Lighthouse for 53 years to hear of the Lighthouse history as well as how one experience as the keeper. The tour was brilliant from start to finish with spectacular views from the top as far as Fair Isle - both inside and from the outside walkway. Exhilarating. Billy's talk was illuminating and captivating.

We were flying around the Islands in small planes dropped into this place by bicycle. Lovely food, friendly people and rumour has it there's a Michelin-starred connection somewhere which the lady there wondered where it had come from. She used to work in the food industry at the top level though, from our chat with her. Fab food, highly recommended and had a freshly-made burger with nice coffee.

Worth the walk up the north of the island from the airport. Took about 2 hours ( slow walking) would love to visit when open.

Importante: Os recomiendo que solo vayáis en Julio y/o Agosto. Si no, es bastante posible que las nieblas y lluvias os puedan amargar la jornada.

We were there in august 2019 and stayed for a night in the lighthouse cottage.
There are no words to describe this place. It is really great !
You have to meet William Muir. He and his wife are very kind and helped us in all cases. William picked us from the ferry and brought us to the cottage.
He also organized a lighthouse tour.
I really look forward to be back there.

A long walk from the airport, approx.4miles each way, no transport, so you need to be fit to visit it. Short talk given about the history of the lighthouse prior to the 134 stair climb to the top. Good views out to sea but no talk or artefacts inside . Fee charged. Slightly disappointed.

What a brilliant afternoon, thanks to Billy and Sarah the tour guides. We arrived on the morning flight and phoned Billy to see if he was free to take us up the lighthouse. Thanks Billy for being so accommodating and Sarah for doing the climb to the top with us. Weather was fantastic and view amazing.
Definitely worth £6 each.

We went there today and was given an amazing overview of the lighthouse by the lighthouse keeper who has been keeping watch for fifty years.
Make certain you visit the cafe and adjacent shop that has goods made from the North Ronaldsay sheep's wool.
